looking for info on the 3500 Ram 6.4L gasser.... taking it out west and to Alaska. I know its not a diesel, but how does it compare with the 6.0L GMC's

I didn't find this 2013 study listed in this thread. Interesting food for thought, but glad I bought a diesel for my TC .

The charts in that study are very interesting for trucks. I need to read more to figure out why the cost spread between the makes is like that.

Pretty interesting study. I'm sure the diesel owners will chime in and dispute the results.
Also, I didn't see where the author included financing costs for each vehicle and add that into the 3 & 5 year TCO. Add that in then most of the diesel trucks would have no "financial" advantage. I highlight financial as this study is only that.

I don't think that any of us diesel heads are claiming to save money by owning one but we are saying that in the end a diesel don't cost any more than a gas but using your terms, the financial advantage in most of our cases is that we get a more capable truck for the same money. A diesel don't make sense for some but it most defiantly does for others.

I just finished my first year of owning my first diesel. I never thought I was going to be saving money over a gas engine when I bought it. I bought it for the power, the torque, the overall towing experience (especially the exhaust brake in the mountains), and longevity. So far it hasn't let me down. Everyone is different though. Otherwise they'd only make one kind of truck.

My dmax (lb7 engine)is in the shop right now having its 4th set of injectors installed at $4500 a shot. The truck has 120,000 miles on it. I am so close to going gas, its not funny. Also since I RV in Mexico where they do not import diesel Pickups, getting service down there is tough. Gas is looking better. I am towing 7000 lbs max.
