I had a 8.1 also in the 3/4 CC and boy was it thirsty 8 city, 12 hwy, towing 7. now with my diesel I see 15-18 city and 22-23 hwy, towing 12.5k 5er =12.5mpg all day even in the hills. if I wanted to sell my truck right now I could get 21-25k. And I paid 35k OTD back in july 2006, and it had a total of 140miles , try that in a same year, same option with the 8.1L now

I was just kidding but just the same, it's all about perception. 4200 rpm is music to my ears with a gas V8. That 2100 rpm Cummins Humm could get pretty tiring too.

I wonder if their diesel price is an indication of the amount they sell?? If they sell a low volume, they still have pricy fuel in their tanks.

My 2013 ,I don't really here towing down the interstate. You have to be looking at the tach to tell. On the back roads is went I hear it and it is only for a few seconds pulling a steep grade then back to 13-1400 rpms which you don't really hear then. Taking off from a stop is really the only time you hear it in the cab. Remember also, I have 18,000# hooked to the hitch.

I hate to burst the bubble for some of the posts here, but most ALL the modern diesels will start just fine, without being plugged in at temperatures even below zero F.
Even my old 12V Cummins would start down to at least -5. Mine didn't even use the intake heater that Rams got. The new Cummins 6.7's at work...we don't even bother to plug them in. They pop right off even at -15, even the one with 170,000 miles, ~6100 hours, and a bad intake heater. The MaxxForce DT I drive also starts right up even at -10.

The 6.7L in the Superduty is very similar to driving my 5.4L Superduty with regard to engine sound in the cab. Very pleasant to drive. The 6.7L Cummins still has that 6cyl diesel hum. It's not loud nor is my 5.4L at 4200rpm. But it's still there. From the driver's seat, I would prefer the 6.7L Ford for it's sound. My tail bone would prefer the Ram's seats.
How about a Youtube video of your truck pulling 18k lbs up the grades and 1300rpm on the flats. Should be easy as it sounds like from you that you do this a lot. Don't forget to show the trailer in the mirrors. Something so many fakes forget to do in their videos.

I enjoyed all six of my diesels. But once the novelty wears off, it's just a noisy engine that can't rev. ![biggrin [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/biggrin.gif) who needs REV`s when You make more HP down low in the stock or modded vehicle. And I dont hardly hear my engine running when I am pulling or not at any speed, unless it is WOT then that is exhaust and turbo`s

well my little 6 at LESS than 300 HP does a great job of moving 19,500# up and down hills at the speed limit, at no more than 2,200 rpm's.
Hahaha! Yeah right. 2800rpm to the floor at 44mph.

In our area, Raleigh NC, we have a lot of big gas/diesel/food stations under the Sheetz name. sheetz.com They have a card that gets a .03 cents per gallon discount at the pump on fuel and some time food.
The price is gas and diesel can be so differnet just down the street from each other is amazing.
I sorta keep up and it seem the difference between RUL and diesel run about .70 cents gallon. sometime you see it at .40 and other it close to a dollar.
I have read with like the ford f-150 eco boost they (ford) highly recommend running premium grade gas when towing to get best performance. I would also guess that to be true with most gassers as well.
At some station i see premium gas higher than diesel so the CTO, cost to operate number start to swing in diesel favor due to better overall MPG especially towing.
"that just my two cents" like the Food Lion spokes lion says on TV.
PS sheetz are mainly from NC north to PA. https://www.sheetz.com/locations/locations.jsp

I just ran my 2005 8.1L through KBB. Granted it's super low miles and in perfect shape but with excellent condition, KBB says $27.7k. I paid $29.6 in 2005. I know KBB can be off but there aren't many around to shop craiglist, etc. for pricing.
If I put in 100k miles it changes to $19.2k which still isn't awful.
