I have a 02 Silverdo Duramax that I bought in 03. Back then diesel was $0.30 cheaper than gas. Now it's $0.45 more. Makes no sense. I've got a log on 98% of all full used. Unless towing heavy, a lot, I would not spend the extra today. And, I'm a big diesel fan.

Yes, there is something out there for everyone. Just buy/drive what you want just keep your gasser in the slow lane.

Massive torque allows not only for strong pulling uphill, but great engine braking downhill. Mileage while towing is great too. The turbo allows for full power at altitude. There really is no downside, other than initial expense.
Downside is the weight. I have a gas engine in part because the diesel version has almost 1,000 lbs less payload capacity and I need all the carrying capacity I can get.

You'll have to prove it to me. No way a gasser will run with my 7.3 with equal wgt. Ain't gonna happen.

I can appreciate the need for capacity. I guess I am just spoiled. We camp in the mtns 99% of the time.
Elevation @ home 1175'
Elevation @ camp 7400'
A few climbs in 100* temps up to about 5000' then it will start to cool off. The altitude alone will kill a gasser. A boosted eng will pull as good there as @ home.
I'm not knockin gassers if that's what someone wants just get tired of hearing about gassers towing as well as a diesel. They will not. If you have one bring to Az and we'll see.

Pretty much.
The bottom line (and I think I've said it ten times in the last five years in this thread) is.......
If you need a diesel vehicle.. You'll know it.

Very few gassers if any are going to touch that kind of mileage towing. That and 37% of my total miles have been towing. With that kind of towing miles it just made sense to buy a diesel.
PS. Total towing miles actually equals 2989.5 of 8044.2 total miles. I only used miles where the entire tank was towing, otherwise my average would be much higher, but not a true picture of towing mileage.
Everyone that owns one failed there math class. They believe what they want to believe and over look real facts.I think it is the smell that over comes the brain at that point and from than on they can't do math.
