Well, of course - be careful. But that pretty much goes without saying when it comes to credit - doesn't it?[emoticon]

With no mortgage and no outstanding debts - for us and the bank it was a "no-brainer". Leave the assets in place, earn more than the cost of the loan with the equivalent investment, deduct the interest charges and figure out what the bottom line looks like. We did a little research and went with the forecast of lower short-term interest rates and [emoticon] guessed right! They went down instead of up for a change. Of course, it helps that we aren't talking luxury coach here [emoticon]

While we won't catch it at rock-bottom, when the interest rates (short term and variable) start back up, we'll lock in the balance at a term rate and feel good about the whole transaction.

We just got 7.25 for 15yrs on a 2005 Pace. That was better than our credit union, which usually has great rates.

We've been looking and learning for about a year. We've been to RV dealers who rent and sell the rentals, straight RV dealers, craigslist, online sites. We started out looking at Class C's but after looking at the Class A's, that's what we decided would fit our needs. We had made up our mind to buy a well maintained 2004 Gulfstream Cavalier rental with 47K miles for the $23K. When slept on it, and by the time we went back, the price went up to $30K. We walked away. I thought with gas prices high, and people afraid to spend money, we would find it easier to make deals.
We found this listing and will be checking it out in May. We heard that Winnebago has it's own factory and it is easy to find parts should the vehicle need them. The owner will be driving it from his home to Massachusetts in a few weeks. He has a wedding to attend. It is being used and from what I'm reading, that's a good thing.
If anyone has had any experience with this model and year, we'd love to hear what you have to say. I'll be "How to buy an rv" list that Johnny T posted. I'll do a NADA on it before making an offer.

So happy I found this forum and all the helpful folks on here.

How do we deal with this *(&*^& ?
We just began our search today with the first of a manufacturer's dealer reps in DFW which has 6 too 8 locations over Texas and Oklahoma. Went to two of them this morning, the first telling us by phone he had the two models we were interested in looking at in stock, drove 40 mile and found out he lied, didn't have them.! Drove another 58 miles to another of their dealers who said he had the 34', which he did. He was lazy in having too show us the coach, and even lazier in answering any of our questions. While we were in his office (at his request) he listened very little as I told him my plan (which by the way is almost identical to yours other than picking the brands first then narrowing it down) and asking him questions and while in mid sentence waved his hand and said "I have another customer" and left. Later on our way out my wife heard him say to the receptionist, "I have no time for them"!
32 years active duty USAF, now retired, todays experience has really turned my wife off the idea and PO'D me off. And this dealer; is claimed to be the best in their field in our area?
Thanks for letting me vent

The dealer may be "the best in his field," but that doesn't mean his salespeople are the best in THEIR field. The old saying in sales is that you have 40% starting, 40% on their way out the door, and 20% doing 80% of the sales. You have to find someone who wants to work for you and earn his commission. I wouldn't be afraid to call the dealer (even the owner) and tell him your story.

There are too few buyers right now for anyone to blow any of them off.

(And when I was assistant manager of a real estate office, I fired people for mistreating customers all the time. Really want to see me angry? Don't return calls!)

My husband and I are looking at a 2007 Class A Monaco Knight. I'd like to hear from anyone who owns one of these, and if they are happy with it. This one seems to be at a good price, and not used although it has to be sold as used. It's a big, rather scary purchase for us since we are first time motor home buyers. Thanks for any info or responses I may get.
