We just purchased our first MH in Sept. We looked and looked at shows, sales, internet and e-bay. We watched to see what rigs were going for. We read all the forums and what owners had to say about their units, good and bad. We even called a couple of finance groups to get pre-approved. Then we saw a unit that we had forgotten about that was about to expire on e-bay and the reserve had already been met. With 30 minutes to go we researched the NADA and found the bidding to be well under the wholesale value, and we placed a bid. With the exciting, fast biding at the end we found we were the owners of a 2004 Monaco Diplomat 40PDQ for $85,000. The the battle really started with the finance company (ESSEX)who insisted that the deal could be done in the 7 day required time limit. At the same time the loan world was starting to fall apart and the interest rate rose twice before they would finalize the deal. The owners were eager to get the deal done because they were purchasing another unit and needed the money for a down payment. After begging and getting an extention of time from the owners we were able to drive the 10hrs to pick up our new MH. All went well except for few minor issues. We were VERY lucky to have done a deal with reputable private owners. It could have been a night mare. It isn't something I would recommend to everyone but it worked for us.

We are looking for a special RV. We travel alone as a couple. WE like a king bed and two comfortable chairs to view TV easily. Also like a large bathroom and shower.

Can a manufacturer make one to our specifications without us spending $1million?

Doesn't need to be overly big, just real comfortable.

Check out a Fleetwood Providence 40X. Has a Queen select comfort bed, which is plenty big enough for us, 2 lounge chairs, and a 40" TV. We love ours, and spend about 6 months a year in it. No problem.[emoticon]

What have people been paying for RV interest rates lately? I was quoted 10% at Wells Fargo for a 15 year loan. Anyone have any suggestions for other resources to check out?

There is a website called

www.rvtraderonline.com and they have a quote for financing link included here http://www.rvtraderonline.com/research/resources/finance/

It is a starting point. Make sure you read the fine print in the financing contracts, like hidden process fees, monthly processing fees, and tricks including early payoff fees.

Another suggestion is that you should get a "CASH QUOTE" from the RV dealer that you are purchasing the unit from. Then compare your best financing deals.

Add on and warranty products that they want to sell you are generally worthless. These are cash cows for the dealers. For example most warranties on trailer tires are from the date of tire production manufacturing and NOT the date you buy the coach. There is a Production Date Stamp on the tire. That is the date the insurance uses; I found the Tire Insurance in which I was a victim, to be absolutely worthless.

If you want some type of warranty insurance, look at Good Sam's Club. Personally, I do not recommend any type of warranty insurance because I budget for repairs; I find it cheaper in the long run.

Good Luck and Happy Camping.

I agree extended warranty not all the time but most of the time is worthless and never seem to get my money's worth. I will not be getting an extended warranty on my Rv. I plan to just budget for repairs.

Paul - As I mentioned in another post - don't overlook a Line of Credit. We checked into that with BoA and have a 3.5% LoC which we used to purchase our MH. Although it's variable, it can be turned into a fixed term/fixed rate at any time. Right now, that means 5.5% for 15 years.

At 5.5% would be an excellent rate. The lowest prime rate I can find is 7.75 if your credit score is between a 700 and 719.
