We are considering moving from a tc to class A. We've been looking at used Airstreams. This advice is quite helpful. Thanks

Thanks for the "article". If I had read that before I bought my motor home I would have made another choice. As a single woman, I expected my friends and family members to want to go with me on my travels, but not yet and it has been 2 years. Well, one friend does, but has just had an unexpected job change. Therefore we have a new boss to contend with. I SHOULD have bought a van camper rather than a small class A. I would have been more comfortable driving alone, and if others wanted to accompany me, we could make room.

I'm also a first time Class A buyer. I've been looking at used units in the 33-35' range throughout the US. Is there a service out there tht one can hire for a vehicle inspection similar to those performed for the boating industry? I would be concerned buying a used unit from an individual as well as a dealer.

Any advise would be appreciated.

This forum is great - Thanks!!

DGS Duck,

I haven't heard of a Rv "Survey". It would be great if there was a service like that. The only thing I did when we bought our 97 in 2003 was bring it to a Cummins dealer and do a inspection and blow by test. They weren't able to do a dino on it. I did the rest of the inspection. I was familiar with Houseboats and cruisers, so the rest of the equipment was easy.

Wow! You certainly have covered a lot. Wish we had known about this site sooner. We are only buying our second RV, so I am going back to read the second part of the posting. My husband has been doing most of the homework for the new RV, so I think I might print it out for him as well.
We are considering and Alfa or a Phaneton by Tiffin. After talking to salesmen at Hershey RV Show, we are on the see-saw. Thanks for the post.

Peg I have an alfa Seeya (2004). I have heard nightmare stories about the service support system from alfaleisure. I can only tell you I have had NO trouble with the unit that wasnt OUR fault, so we have had no such experience with alfa. We think this is the most day to day liveable unit on the market. The prices right now are wonderful for the new units.
Tiffin has an excellent reputation for customer support, going out of their way to help or correct any problems found. I've often said.. if I ever lost my alfa, a tiffin phaeton will be my next rv.. the one with 4 slides, king size bed and a tub... just cause I love a king size bed and a tub and I think having 4 slides would be so roomy... but could be a problem insome campgrounds. The tub and big bed are worth it, in my humble opinion.

I've had no experience with the new Alfas, so I can't advise you on their quality... but you wont find a brighter rv with more windows than an alfa.

Hello,
We are brand new to the forum, and joined because of the Georgie Boy Owners Thread.

We have just purchased our 3rd mh. A 2005 GB Cruise Master LE 3640TS.
Our previous mh was a '98 Pace Arrow on a P chassis, the "bicycle tires" were wearing me out on long drives and we didn't have a slide.

I have enjoyed reading all 7 pages of posts.

Does anyone have any experience with this model? Is there anything that we should be aware of, suggestions, ect.
Our (hubby, rottie, B/G Macaw, and occasional grand's) first trip will begin as soon as the DPI is complete. (the mh was a demo, so it sold as new with 2,000 miles). Headed to Texas and circling back around to my brothers in Hartford, TN.

Every one seems very nice, knowledgeable and more than willing to help out with information.

Looking forward to this thread experience.

Johnny T,

Thank you, that was great. Wish I had joined this before buying my motorhome last March. Just traded it in for another 2006 that is far better suited to our needs. I am a sea-going tug captain and know better than to jump into something as complicated as today's motorhomes without good prior planning/preperation.

Thanks firemanmn - interesting that the boating industry has these and in fact - boat insurance companies require it!

I agree with almost everything that is said in the article except on one thing. I would rather go to a place like Lazy Days in Florida and look at all the motorhomes notwithstanding the price. Sometime you can find a real bargain with is very close to your budget limit, but it's got all the extras which may prevent a more expensive trade down the line. If you have doubts don't buy and wait for the right one. Keep going to trade shows and make no compromises otherwise you will live to regret it. Better buy a travel trailer with all the extras then a naked Motorhome nobody will want as a trade in or as a used vehicle.
