I'm having issues starting my 1994 Fleetwood Jamboree Rallye. Many times when turning the key to start, I hear a click, then nothing. Battery is fine, it is not the clicking from a low battery. I'm just getting the one click of the solenoid energizing. Now it's doing it so often I'm afraid of getting stranded.
A while back I was reading that the e350 has TWO starter solenoids, or maybe it is just motorhomes. And now further surfing indicates there may be a starter solenoid switch (or relay) and a starter solenoid.
The pic below shows both(?). I am a tiny bit familiar with both, but did not know that BOTH of these are on this vehicle.
Could someone shed some light on this topic?
TIA, Phil

There is a starter relay and a solenoid. Starter relay is your $45 item and is normally mounted to inner fender well. Solenoid, your $80 item, is mounted on the starter.
Could be just a loose connection between relay and starter solenoid.
Replacing starter solenoid would be better served if you replace the complete starter assembly.

My 1987 Citation had two solenoids. It was a FRED.

Could be a bad starter. Different animal, but my ATV recently would not start. It would click when I hit the key, but starter would not turn. Using a voltmeter I checked to see if I as getting voltage out of the starter solenoid. I was. Checked to see if I was getting voltage to the starter motor. I was.
Bought a new starter and installed it and all was fine. Took the old starter apart and found the brushes worn down to nubs.

I'm thinking maybe I should replace all 3, relay, solenoid and starter, they all may be 29 years old.
Thanks!

I've seen that before, but can't find a block diagram.
Could someone direct me to diagrams of FRED, BIRD and BIM systems?

Here is one diagram. The starter relay actuates the starter solenoid (mounted on the starter) which supplies voltage to the starter motor. The click may be the starter relay. Or it may be the starter solenoid (which is simply a heavy duty relay). If you can reach them with a voltmeter you can determine if you are getting voltage out of the relay and if you are getting voltage out of the solenoid to the starter motor.
But replacing all 3 is probably a good idea considering the age.
