Just wondering how many stay home for Thanksgiving or go somewhere for the holiday. And do you search for a nice restaurant or prepare your meal in your RV? We have done both. I'd like to go someplace but hubby is fine with staying home...so I guess I'll be cooking!

This year, for the first time in decades we will go to another family member. We normally set up camp in state park. I cook the whole feast using Dutch ovens wood fire and charcoal.
As the bird is cooking, I look around for anybody that looks to be alone. Invite them to join us. Over dozen ovens for just 2 leaves plenty to share with any stranger willing to meet with strangers.

We never traveled over or during a holiday. The lone exception was Labor Day but even then we'd leave home several days before Labor Day, find a spot and hunker down till the day after LD. When we started traveling during AUG-SEPT-OCT we'd use the same strategy. Find a spot several days or a week before and hunker down until the day after. One of only two times in 35-seasons that we complained to the park staff about excessive noise was during the LD weekend. A party of drunks were blasting music, screaming, yelling and making themselves a general nuisance throughout the CG. We complained, staff gave the drunks one warning (which they ignored) and then kicked them out of the park.

We'll be doing our normal with neighbors in the park we winter in. That way no one is stuck fixing everything, each will bring part of the meal and we'll setup somewhere between us.

Not going anywhere this holiday save the other rooms.. Won't even leave the apartment.. And I get Wed. evening off to.. no Chior practice.


Home was where I park it. but alas the.

after a semi "nicked" it. Still have the radios

When we RV'd (and lived in Houston, TX), we'd always travel over Thanksgiving and always cook (primarily smoking the bird) "from the RV". Did this for about 10-12 years. After the first time or two, learned to reserve a spot NLT the Sunday before and run through at least the Friday after or possibly the Monday after if we could take that much time. It was no fun trying to either find a campsite on the fly or even trying to find a decent rest stop to crash at for an RON on the way back.

Always stayed home. It's not Thanksgiving to us if we aren't with family. However, I can understand those who want to be away from all of the family "drama" or would otherwise be alone. There's company in campgrounds.


I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be Douglas Adams

RV-less for now but our spirits are still on the open road.
