Here is another piece you might enjoy This one by the master of marches. Did you know it has lyrics? (I did) this contains half the refrain (It's a long refrain) some years ago someone ask me about lyrics and.. naturally I learned them.

Taps has 24 notes (yes, I looked it up!). As haunting a melody as it gets though.

The twenty-four notes we know as Taps has been in use in the US military since its origin in 1862. It has undergone slight modifications over the years but has essentially remained the same.

Not sure of the right terminology: Taps has 24 notes (i.e. quarter-, half-, whole notes) comprised of 4 "sounds": G, C, E, and (an octave higher) G.

Back in the day, it was a challenging song for a junior high kid to learn: notes were easy enough, but combining that with the proper duration, etc....challenging.

My post was referring to the death throes (finally) of this forum.
I stayed loyal for many years but dang it's been hard.
Hopefully the new version will be great.

As to the song itself I've listened to it on many an Army post as Dad got sent here and there from WWII until he passed in 1983.
It still gives me shivers.
