That's easy. Your furnace had lost the magic dust that allowed it to fire. By removing the orifice and blowing through it you rejuvenated the magic dust.

Yes that is a joke. But whatever it was, glad you got it working again.

I thought he had a WATER HEATER[emoticon] Doug

PS, he removed the orifice and cleaned it out. microscopic particles behind the orifice hole can jump around and cause the exact type problems he had.

What altitude are you camped at? Ours is finicky about air/fuel ratio and can act up at 7k' and above. Depends somewhat on breeze direction too. But I have found that opening and leaving open the outside door hatch solves the issue. Just enough extra air flow to increase the oxygen.
