I have very little information on trip permits and how they would be used to avoid paying personal property taxes you owe in your home state. And aren't they for commercial use?

Calicrazy is well known for taking a guilty until proven innocent approach to tax collection...License plate reader picks you up in state and checks your official residence and you get a tax bill with penalties...plus in this case, you would be guilty even if the tax is excessive.

In WA anyone can go to DOT and purchase a 3 day trip permit. It used to be $15, not sure what it costs now. Totally legal to NOT license your RV and buy trip permits. Used to do so when WA had insane tab fees.

Here in AZ, you're limited on the # of times you can buy them, just to keep people from doing exactly this.

The OP is not in WA, he’s in CA (what WA does doesn’t necessarily apply anywhere else in the world).
