So, out fifth wheel is a 2012 model (NuWa Champagne). It has what, at the time, was the standard multi-piece fold out steps. The steps themselves had a "traction" strip in the middle of them, but nothing near the edge.
I am thinking about sanding the paint off, removing the traction strip and having Line-X (or similar_ sprayed ONLY on the steps (masking off the sides and the pivot mechanisms).
Has anyone here installed something like Line-X on their steps (for safety) and how did it do? Did it last over time?
I am mainly concerned about my wife coming down the steps and placing her foot in an area that has not traction strips.
Thoughts?

Why not install traction stickers that are meant for that purpose?

With lawsuits being as rampant as they are today, I would be hesitant to substitute my fix for what the manufacturer and their staff of engineers designed. Have you experienced the problem you describe or are you hypothesizing?

also have a '98 Champagne With the same steps. For many years I have used the step covers that fit on each step and is secured with either springs or cable ties. These last for 7-10 years and then I replace with new ones. They offer excellent traction.

Use either step treads ( carpet pieces) or anti slip tape that is made for that.

Before spending money replacing the step; Consider spending $9 on some new traction tape. The tape and a scissors to trim to fit might solve all you problems.

My experience with those is that they tend to peel at the edges over time. But, I will look at see what is out there these days. Thanks.

Experienced it in the rain with rubber soled shoes. Bounced down two of four steps. I can try the adhesive stuff, I just know that the Line-X in the bed of my truck is abrasive, even when wet, and has never peeled. But, I will try the stickers.

My step is rusted out. Remembering what roof under the padded covers of '70s compared to same car with painted roof, I suspect the carpet tread is the reason. OTOH, I keep my stuff a long time. Going to trade up in few years? Let next guy work it out.
I see no reason not to use bedliner. How many people likely to sue you climbing steps?
