Last camping trip we had a problem with the slide out not retracting. Had to get a mobile guy to come help us get it back in. He came with two people, spent 1.5 hours and charged me 100.00. His shop was booked and we aren't local so I thought I'd look closer to home. Brought it to Camping World in Uxbridge MA. They just called and said they spent over 2 hours tryi9ng to diagnose the issue and they are not "equipped" to handle this type of problem. I asked what was the problem and they said they were not sure, but they referred me to a shop in Worcester that can't take it until October 25. They charged me 400 to tell me they don't know what the problem is and they aren't equipped to work on slide outs. Well guys, you can see how old my camper is and itys a pretty good chance in the next 2 to 3 years I'll be shopping for a new one. NOT at a Camping World though. They should have told me from the get go that they were not equipped to work on the slide out

I hear you, I haven't had the best experiences from CW's service department, although we got some good deals from store side. Slide issues plague newer RVs as well, sometimes more so as they appear they are not as sturdily built, more than likely due to weight constraints from pressure for engineers to reduce overall weight on newer rigs.

Info on type of slide-out mechanism, manufacturer, and what were the symptoms, lots of knowledgeable folk on this forum with similar rigs that have faced the same issues. These rigs are complicated and many RV service centers just don't have enough experienced staff, still charging for a couple of hours is uncalled for, although not surprising these days.

What type of slide do you habve
Giventhe age I knwo of 3 types
Hydraulic
Rack and pinion
Cable operated

From there odds are I'm going to know the issue list and there really are only 3 or 4 thigns that can go wrong.

Its a HWH 310 hydraulic system. The problem was that the living room slide would not retract. A mechanic had to release the fluid and we manually pushed it in. The other slide and the jacks worked as usual.

FYI, 310 is the Model of the Jack system. While the slide mechanism is HWH that is not the model of the slide system. Your HWH slide system is one of the easiest to diag and fix. The fact that CW and some other shop could not find and give a diag in less than 1 hour shows the state of incompetence in the RV industry service industry. If the jacks and other slide operated and just the one did not retract, that points to the solenoids(2) for that slide not operating. There is a extend solenoid and a retract solenoid. EITHER could cause a retract problem. BAD valve(not releasing electrically) or 12 volt supply to the solenoid problem. Good news is, a GOOD shop can get hold of HWH and get diagnosis help. HWH prioritizes authorized shops for Phone technical help. Doug

Just got a call from CW Service advisor. They are not going to charge for the diagnosis and in fact they are not charging for a small job they did that I waws happy to pay for. So now all I need to do is find a shop that will work on a 20 year old slideout system. I've been referred to Timbuktu in Worcester. Not sure if I'll try to get it fixed now or in the spring.

You better start now. HWH is way behind in replacement parts. It may take a few months for the shop to get the replacement parts to fix. Spring, the shops will be very busy. Doug
