Which is a better road from St. Louis to Chicago area...I-55 or I-57?

I-55. I've traveled both extensively. Live just a few miles from I-55.

I-55. Hands down...

Depending on where you're coming from, I-255 is what I've found is the the easiest/flattest way around traffic and downtown if coming on either I-55 or I-44.

I'm not nearly as wild about I-270 because of construction over the last couple years.



  • 2019 Grand Design 29TBS (had a Winnebago and 3x Jayco owner)
  • 2016 F-150 3.5L MaxTow (had Ram 2500 CTD, Dodge Durango)
  • 130W solar and 2005 Honda EU2000i twins that just won't quit

I notice you're from Kalamazoo. If you are heading to Michigan, take I57. There is little difference between I57/I55 and I80 from I55 to I57 is TERRIBLE.

Yes, Kzoo bound.I will likely head east on 24 from I-55 or I-57. Then north on 421 or 31. May possibly spend a few days in Shipshawanna depending on weather. It will be late October.

If you're ultimately planning to cut across US-24 and up to Kalamazoo... I change my answer.

Take I-70 to US-231 and stay as far away from Chicago as you can.
