Can anyone tell us what this road is like pulling a 32 ft 5th wheel. We have read negative reviews and really don't want to attempt if it is as bad as everyone says but what route would we take from Grants Pass? We are in Grants Pass now and head out Monday. Please We need suggestions. Thank you so much

It will not be fun in a few spots, but it's doable. I just drove it in my truck a couple of weeks ago, but I wasn't pulling my trailer. Much of it will be fine, but there are some stretches that are very narrow and twisty with blind corners and a rock wall close up against the North Side of the road. You should be able to pull up pictures of the hwy using Google Street View.

Btw- We noticed a plume of smoke from a large fire that has recently flared up north of there near Agnes. That should be far enough away from there to not be an issue, but you may want to check.

If you plan on visiting the Redwoods, consider unhooking the 5th wheel when you get to Jedadiah Smith State Park and driving Howland Hill Road. No trailers are allowed on this dirt road, but it will get you up close and personal with a lot of big redwoods.

x2 what mtnbbud said.
There are a couple tight spots, but big rigs run up and down that road all the time. Just go slow and enjoy the scenery (you'll be along the Middle Fork of the Smith River).

The smoke is from the Flat Fire (named for Oak Flat CG along the Illinois River, near where it started) that is just a couple miles south of Agness. Presently, most of the smoke is going south(ish) which would likely impact Hwy 199 (i.e.; there will be smoke)

Have fun.

Also is there any steep drop off with no guard rails going south? I guess we will travel that road don't want to lose money on reservations near Orik California. Thanks so much for info.

I do not remember any unprotected steep slopes.
