Haven’t been thru there. But I would just follow google maps route of NE-2 to I-29 to St. Joseph. Google street view shows NE-2 to I-29 as a good 4 lane divided highway.

I've followed that route in reverse I29 N to NE 2 W to I80 while headed to Cheyenne.
