The problem is not so much entering Canada, the problem is coming back to the US from Canada.

Hi,
You will need a valid passport to return to USA, as will any one with you.

If you are traveling with pets you will need a, I believe, health certificate not older than 30 days. But check it out I may be wrong on the time. I know 3 years ageo I needed the pet form but was never asked for it at the boarder.

You must carry proof of valid vehicle public liability insurance with you in a motor vehicle. I am not sure if an electronic copy stored on your device is valid across Canada. A paper certificate is.
