Had my surgery on July 31st and was supposed to stay just one night in the hospital for observation. But, there was a complication. An Illeus developed in my small intestine...essentially a blockage when a part of the small intestine did not wake up from the anesthesia. This resulted in a 2-week stay in the hospital, one horrible week with an NG tube thru my nose into my stomach, two blown IVs and not much sleep.

I've been home for about a month now and feeling about 90% of normal. Getting more 'regular' every day but still not sleeping well (but I haven't slept well in years) and my stamina is still not 100% restored meaning I tire quickly. I've been driving for the last 2-weeks and appetite is good.

On the plus side...the nurses and aides at the hospital were absolute angels! They got me thru this. Despite their workload they all found time to just talk with me and walk with me. Several even came to visit me after their 13-hr shift was over and one even brought me a birthday present. I kept track of their names and am writing a letter to the hospital admin staff praising each of them for their part in easing my pain and stress. The other good news is the biopsy showed no sign of cancer!

The take-a-way? I did this to myself. I knew I needed prostate surgery but I procrastinated for 2-years until I couldn't ignore it any longer. Have an annual prostate exam every year starting at age 40. I don't want to see anyone go thru the hell I did.

Nice to read the update. Glad to see you are getting better. As we age we seem to put things off until almost the last minute. We just need to learn to not put off medical conditions.

Yay for the clear biopsies! (And very important message about checkups!)

Sorry to hear that. How are u feeling now?Consider exploring techniques like mindfulness or gentle exercises, which can aid in the recovery process. I found this helpful article on Pilates wall units here that might assist in building strength post-surgery. Wishing you a smooth journey ahead.

Feeling very good...back to where I was the day before this whole thing started back in May. I get tired a bit more easily than before but overall I'm back. [emoticon]. Thanks for asking.
