I just picked up a '22 3500HD Denali Duramax. I've seen a couple reports of people saying they had their TT or FW scorched by the rocket exhaust from a regen on a diesel. Any truth to this? I sure as hell don't want to fry the skin on my FW if I don't have to. Banks claims their Monster Exhaust, with more of a side delivery, prevents this. Just looking for real-work experience if it's even something to worry about.

TIA,
Lyle

If you google it you will see a few owners have had issues with this but the majority of posters haven’t. I didn’t realize this could be a problem.

If you have a 5th Wheel and Short Bed (now called Standard) and the exhaust doesn't have enough angle to get it away from the front corner, yes you can have some issues. Have seen some report on the Redwood Forum of issues.

Not a lot, but I have seen several postings on RV forums from GM owners saying the heat from the GM exhaust pointing directly at the curb side front corner of the RV causing heat damage. Hard to say just how much of a problem it is.

"If you have a 5th Wheel and Short Bed (now called Standard)"

Still a "SHORT" bed.

Cut off the last section and have a replacement pc made with the outlet pointed to where you want the hot air to go.

20K miles or so on our 2015.5 duramax while towing a 30ft TT and or a 15ft cargo trailer and Ihaven't noticed any damage from regen.

Did those who had problems have the stock tip on or an aftermarket? The stock tip is "double insulated and designed to pull in outside air near the exhaust to reduce temps. Personally I have been standing very close to the exhaust when the truck was parked and in regen and yes, it get's hotter than normal but not hot enough to do any damage.

Nice truck!!
I think your answer lies in whether the exhaust points directly at the camper and how close it is. Not something any of us can answer other than the GM tailpipe does face more rearward than the other 2 brands of light duty diesel pickups.
Yes the Dmax (and Flowerjoke) tailpipes are designed to create a Venturi effect and cool the exhaust gasses at the end of the stream with fresh air, I dunno how much it lowers temps but if all else fails you can modify or replace the tailpipe tip with an aftermarket piece, worst case.

May look into a Banks exhaust system if it becomes a problem
