We plan on cabling the new genny to the back of the truck. But do any of you have an alarm hooked up to scare any bad guys away? We might be gone for a few hours and thought unwanted attention would be a deterrent, short of pissing off the neighbors.

IMO, leaving ANYTHING of high value which is easily transportable, visible, . . . is just too tempting to those in need. My thoughts are, . . . . out of sight, . . . . out of mind. Thieve's know that the RV communities are a transient bunch, and, there's a good chance your current neighbors don't know you. Do you know them? Probably not. (at least, not very well) Opportunity abounds.

We have the generator cabled to the truck but if we leave, the generator gets put away.
Locks keep honest people honest but give them 2-3hours and it's not hard to cut off a steel cable.

We use a good heavy duty cable and lock, but I also use a Lock Alarm I've seen the lock alarm moved a couple times, like they were checking it out. But never had anything stolen with it.

The older I get the more concerned I seem to be about this kind of stuff. We have camped a ton at all kinds of places and never had any issues. I usually hide the generator behind the camper but it would take less than a minute to walk in and take it. I think the alarm would scare away most would be thief’s and maybe draw the attention of the neighbors to take a look and see what’s going on and possibly get a license plate.

In a busy campground I have felt it isn't much of an issue. I take my honda and put it in the front storage, but anyone with a key can get in. I guess I feel there is enough people around that anyone would notice someone that isn't supposed to be there. When we boondock, typically away from anyone else, I lock it up. I guess I feel anyone who would steel it didn't come there to steel so wouldn't have a grinder or the right tools. So far "knock on wood" nothing has walked away. But I have talked to many whose bikes have disappeared.

I just don't leave mine sitting there. I am there if it is running. If it is not running, it is in the back of my pickup.
