Using a winch to handle the Companion makes it pretty hard to beat, but, there does exist a light cheap hitch with an over rated weight carrying capacity that a child can pick up. Some people prefer that hitch for the very reasons you mention.
It's amazing how many compromise. They like the ANDERSEN "Crush Test" but reality is that is NOT what counts. Ya see they don't do a fore and aft test as that is where the problems exist.

I personally know a couple that are full time RVer's that sell many products and test them also. They are on the National public stage in the RV world, I will leave it at that.
He used to sell the ANDERSEN and may still do so. He had one in his RAM DRW pulling his 36' Mobile Suites. We talked about the hitch and his first comment was it caused bed deflection.

Are you trying to just deflect from your boasting of the one handed lifting of the B&W base ?Barney opened the thread back up to let us see this feat ,I do hope you video it . All I want to see here is you walk over to the back of that pickup ,and with one hand ,pick that base up standing on the ground ,and put it down to the ground . Now I could care less how you get it to the tailgate ,slide it with one hand etc etc . The subject here was the B&W hitch removal from a truck . You made the comment it's a one handed job ,we are waiting .
Most of us think some lifting device would be the better way ,and of course the smartest . And Ron there are many that are not as capable as you with the one handed removal . Man, your 65, so, that makes your dad 87? Good for him to still be RVing. You should get a video of him throwing the hitch up on the tailgate ... even if he has to use two hands.
