The Facebook EV RV camping groups have tens of thousands of active members. Answers to questions are almost instant and the expertise and experience from electric vehicle aspect is superior to anything one would find here whether that be hitches, loading, or accessories or whatever.

What’s not as good (yet) is the RV maintenance and repair aspect. On these old RV boards there is still lots of knowledge. But that will fade as well as old members move on. Obviously EV RVer's are not going to join a caustic board like this, but the archives will be available for many years yet.

Interesting... and understandable.

Therein lies the trouble for many who refuse to join Facebook... or any social media platform that requires a computer science degree to figure out how to stop the platform from tracking and monetizing every other aspect of your life that it can discover before finding the settings to turn such sharing off.

The old BBS and USE-NET formats that evolved into forums are somewhat limited in their technical capacity to track users, in large part because people do not typically use sites like RV.net to share personal photos and intimate family news with their relatives.

The relative anonymity of a forum format focuses the conversation on the topic, not the personality, by default. Yet it appears that I am not alone in noticing that there are some bad apples that have been allowed to linger in RV.net's barrel, whose prolific posting of personal insults on every thread has poisoned the atmosphere here to such a degree that I stopped participating on this platform.

I've likewise noticed that some of the more prominent RV.net members from 15 years ago have also stopped participating in discussions on RV.net, and I know that these members are still alive, because once in a great while we touch bases offline.

From reading a few of those I see they turn into off-topic insult contests.

That pretty much describes this forum in general as of late. It has become a toxic environment

Yah. Huge change from 15 years ago. It is still useful but it is much more a hate centered political forum now. And without embracing new technologies it will just fade away in the years to come.

The culture of toxicity that has been allowed to fester here on RV.net seemed to be a separate matter from the observation of how many EV threads were closed, while equally toxic threads not about EVs remained open.

I was asking about the EV threads, but it could be that the issue is inextricable from the toxicity in general.

Thank you to the community members who responded thus far.

It would also be helpful to hear the perspective of RV.net administration.

There's no policy forbidding EV related threads. As mentioned, most closures of threads are caused by incivility of member posts.

This is a Signature test on RV.net forum portal.

JMO, but I would say the age difference, between various social media, compared to this forum, is part of the reason. Many on rv.net are older/retired/real old. Old people don't like change, such as changing the clocks 2 times a year.

I have little interest in EVs myself, at this point anyway, and I'm not real old. I enjoy reading some of the humorous (to me) threads though, especially as they approach the lock.

Generally speaking, maybe, but I'm 74 and I like new things. EVs are exciting and fun to drive.

Like all public forums you have no control over what type of individuals sign on. Some think they know everything and discourage alternate thought. Some ask a newbie type question and get called out for being dumb. Sad that “adults” can’t have meaningful discussions with out getting personal or insulting.

"The number of RVers towing small trailers that are switching to electric vehicles as a tow vehicle is growing REALLY FAST and yet this board is not attracting any of them. Nor is there a specific forum area for them. I would think that it would be a priority of an RV forum sponsored by an RV retailer to attract this new generation of RVers."

I've seen your call for an EV subforum and I agree it would be a step in the right direction. It wouldn't hurt. However, that may be easier said than done. It may be a tedious task with this old engine they use to maintain this forum. I don't know.

Even then, it would take time for it to be found and populated by new EV enthusiasts, if ever. As you said, their are plenty of other places for EV RV'ers to get their fix.

I doubt the EV subforum would ever become the knowledge repository this forum once was, and still is. RV.net lost a treasure trove of invaluable information when their database crashed, or whatever happened. There is a chronological hole when using the search engine.

I suggest users that cannot behave should be blocked from posting in individual threads where they make trouble. Block for 30 days. Each additional block would double the time.
May not be an option. This would apply to all subjects not just EVs.

Otherwise would need a EV sub forum in many categories.

76 here and I think EVs will be the way of the future. And rightfully so. Not the near future. Maybe not in my lifetime. But it will happen.

I think it's more the disparate view points:
- There are those who live by the mantra "there is no replacement for displacement"
- There are also those who live in a fantasy world regarding the current capabilities of EVs.

The result is little common ground and statements so far apart that people on the opposite side feel obliged to respond with opposing unrealistic comments.

The people in the middle who discuss in a factual manner tend to get drowned out.

There is a niche place for small EV RVs of limited daily range but for most typical RVers, it's a long way out before they will be viable.

For what it's worth, I have been an active member since 2004 (that's 18 years for the tent campers), and in my opinion, there is no more nor less sarcastic or worse posting than at any other time on this forum. I think the ADMINS do a pretty good job of monitoring and shutting down (chose a word here) posts.

(PS, they still retain that original feature that allows you to not read any post that offends you, and with no cost to you.)

Today is my personal best for most consecutive days alive.
