Can you put a price on COVID-19 options? Experts weigh lives versus economics

Rough estimates by Economist Sergio Rebelo to cost shutdown vs deaths

Quote:

His initial modeling efforts showed that even a yearlong lockdown makes economic sense, to allow time for a vaccine to be developed. The pause would shrink the economy by approximately 22%—a cost of $4.2 trillion. By comparison, the model shows that without containment measures, the economy would contract by about 7% over that year—but as many as 500,000 additional lives would be lost, which translates into a loss of roughly $6.1 trillion.

Containing COVID-19 Will Devastate the E........Case for Why It’s Still Our Best Option.

[emoticon] Hopefully a feel good note based in reality
From a news note I could not copy

Pfizer has developed an RNA agent that appears to really stimulate antibodies against the Covid19 virus. Both East and West coast varieties.

Human trials are underway.

Hopefully a reader can trace this down to an actual link and post it.

This is the first news that has made my scalp tingle. Pfizer is a gigantic entity.

Fingers and toes crossed

Oxford University seems to be in the lead at the moment.

Vaccine by September? Too much to hope for?

Hi Mex,

I found articles in three places. Wall street journal (pay wall), the Baltimore Sun (link below), and New York Times. The Times article has been taken down. That worries me a bit.

For some reason I feel a lot better mentally when I safely get an hour's sun daily. It was too easy for me to stay cooped up indoors. Now weather and safety permitting, I spend an hour in full sun.

Our state started reopening but I'm gonna wait a little further since it is still a bit too risky to go outside.Meanwhile, I will make sure my car is in good condition by checking it using reliable obd2 scan tool. I should prepare things first before going out.

No one has died from being cautious.
