Etstorm, this is the kind of information that is dangerous because it's unsupported rumor. I'm a veterinarian and am privy to professional message boards where up to date information is shared and to summaries provided by state and federal agencies and boards of animal health. There have been NO verified increased incidence of pneumonai in dogs.
The cat/corona virus association is discussed above. There have been no verified cases of spread of COVID-19 from cats to people. It does appear that some cats can grow the virus, but it does not appear to cause a serious disease in cats, and it does not appear to happen frequently.
Again, if you are sick or are positive from corona you should avoid contact with your pets - just as you would any family member.

Thanks Dr. Doug.
To all members: As requested previously, provide links from reliable sources; NO here-say or anecdotal!! This epidemic is too serious to work on speculation.

H3N2 & H3N8 are both strains of canine flu that have been regionally epidemic in recent years. They have been widely publicized and even have a vaccine available (and the vaccine has been available for years). These flu strains are not contagious to people.
Rather than making a post that implies that COVID is spreading in dogs, it would be responsible to get more information.

RV.net is doing a very good job of managing this situation in a valuable way, thanks.
Two of our 3 daughters have exercise induced asthma. A simple and not too expensive precaution we have on hand is a Pulse Oximeter in the belief it will help alert a little earlier for anyone with underling respiratory issues needing help. Not medical advice, just a thought.

Donfla, thank you. We are all trying to work through this. We have some members and/or relatives and at least one moderator who has an infected family member. It IS serious and we need to rely on the most up to date info from the most reputable sources. And, the medical community is having to learn as they go. Be safe.

Not to be argumentative however if you read that article carefully you will see wording such as "computer model" that refers to evolution of new strains and where they originate from for "developing vaccines".
You will also see the word "hypothesis" used quite a few times.
I do not doubt that the hypothesis stated that 85% of Asia lives in a region that allows continuous transmissions.
The article does state about "transmission rates".
However it doesn't state that our seasonal flu each year comes solely from Asia. No info on the flu reoccurring every season in the USA.
The flu is not fully understood, if it was it would have been "eradicated" along with small pox, polio and the other viruses that we have eliminated through vaccines. So keep in mind that no one has a complete grasp on viruses.
Viruses also spread by animals such as fowl, swine, equine, etc...
My point is confirmed by research such as this:
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season.htm
"While seasonal influenza (flu) viruses are detected year-round in the United States, flu viruses are most common during the fall and winter. The exact timing and duration of flu seasons can vary, but influenza activity often begins to increase in October. Most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, although activity can last as late as May."
"While influenza viruses circulate year-round, most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, but activity can last as late as May."
Just because we have a "flu season" due to the flu liking cold, dry conditions does NOT mean the virus has been eradicated during the summer months as the CDC confirms...
https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/why-do-we-get-the-flu-mos/"The winter flu epidemic in a given locality reaches its peak in two to three weeks and lasts five to six weeks. Then it disappears as quickly as it arrived. The reason for this is not completely clear."
"Another problem with the vertical upwards transmission model is that it does not explain how flu can break out simultaneously in areas that are far from one another geographically, when there is no apparent possibility of transmission between the sites. One theory is that the virus may be present in a latent form in asymptomatic carriers, who reactivate virus (one wonders why) and infect susceptible contacts."
"But the frequency of human contact across the world and the highly infectious nature of the virus make this explanation difficult to accept. Moreover, there is no evidence of persistent or latent infection with influenza viruses. In any case, this idea is not really very different from the notion that the virus circulates at a low level throughout the year and seizes its opportunity to cause an outbreak when conditions allow. Even harder to explain is why the flu disappears from a community when there are still a large number of people susceptible to infection."
Note how "theory" is typically used as we still do not understand the flu completely...
https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/flu-comes-back-every-year-will-coronavirus/
"Flu is pandemic and endemic. It doesn’t disappear every summer. It’s just biding its time, hanging out in human bodies (either at low levels of infection or in the opposite hemisphere), ready to spread again once conditions improve."
https://www.google.com/search?q=Why+does........VDvDkQ4ChDx0wN6BAgLECo&biw=1587&bih=1174
Anyway, there is much to be learned about viruses in general...
Stay safe!
Edit- to correct the coding.
Inquiring minds want to know...

I'm pretty excited about the possibilities of vaccines. I'm old enough to remember fearing polio - and how wonderful it was to have a vaccine.
Of course the million-dollar question is - can Ed and I manage to NOT get infected before the vaccines are available. So far, we're doing a pretty good job of self-isolation; retirement certainly helps, and we apparently have a high tolerance for boredom....LOL!
Stay well, everyone!

Viral genomes tend to react when the pathogen senses it is killing off the hosts. This is a prime characteristic of a mortal virus. Thank god Covid19 is not as lethal as Sars or Mers. It is utterly different than standard strains of influenza.
It is estimated that there are a minimum of 400 qualified research institutes worldwide working on this pathogen. They are experimenting even on the genome to make it more vulnerable. This is what Biohazard level 5 labs are for.
I am extremely optimistic about progress in the next 6 months.

MI State parks are closed to camping until at least May 15th
New stay at home orders no longer permit travel between residences. Also, which totally befuddles me, does not permit using a boat with power, only sailboats, canoes and row boats.
Can not purchase gardening supplies or even seeds, but can purchase electronic devices.
Police have been handing out tickets for violating stay at home orders. One department was photographed at a Home Depot checking receipts for "essential" supplies. Grocery stores now have a (IRC) 4 person limit per 1,000 sq ft.
