Just looked at my weight slip on my dually and it is 7,960 with my AF990.

OK the jury is in. I hit the cat scales today with FULL diesel tank on the truck, FULL water, FULL propane and two batteries plus food, pots and pans etc etc and basically ready to hit the road for a camping trip.

Normally, I would not fill the water all the way since I see no need for 59 gallons of fresh water (most I ever used camping was a 4 day trip in our tent trailer and we used about 30 gallons (25 in the tank and two 6 gallon jugs that we used one of), I've also gone all spring and summer on one 5 gallon LP tank in the old camper so I'm guessing I wouldn't really need all 14 gallons I have now. Chances are I'll let one of those tanks drain out and only fill it again if I need to (when the other is getting low). I fill before heading out so it isn't an issue to check and top up as needed.

The point? I'm HEAVY! we all knew that.

The verdict? Again, all tanks full and....drum roll....

Front Axle weight 5200lbs
Rear Axle weight 7680lbs
Total weight 12880

I'm under on the rear axle for tires, over the rated cap of the axle by Ford but will under Visteon's rating.

Overall, I'll be some 1700lbs over with driver and passenger. Dropping 230lbs of water and propane will help and it sits perfectly level with only 15lbs in the air bags. You can tell it's heavy when driving around corners but not scary at all. Side winds didn't bother me either. So I'm ok with driving it like this. Stops well etc.

Mileage? 8mpg with heavy winds, 10mpg without the wind so far.

Update: I'm at about 500 miles on this setup now and can confirm that it feels pretty good actually. I think shocks would help a little with bounce and porposing on rougher road sections etc and a sway bar will maybe help a little with sway at certain points but even on some winding roads it felt very good and the DW has no issue with it at all [emoticon]

Very happy so far and looking forward to many many miles to come!

I appreciate you posting weights, I recently purchased a 992 so I'll see how close it is when I get it prepped.

Thx for posting actual weights. Amazing how loading up a srw pickup doesn’t automatically make it a death trap as some would have you believe.
In reality, the only component that is over its actual load rating is the rims. And my theory about that, right wrong or indifferent, is that the mfgs build in a CONSIDERABLE amount of factor of safety into OE wheels on these trucks. If they didn’t there would be trucks breaking rims and crashing daily and the mfgs would be neck deep in lawsuits whether they were “right” or not. Therefore, they make wheels that don’t break without significant abuse.
