Ahh you are referring to the Rivian tests. I think that was an extreme durance test kinda thing. Pre-production. If it’s the one we watched it was mostly engineers proving out the truck. From what I remember it was pretty remote and extreme conditions. I would think many manufacturers do that. It was fun to watch.

At least Tesla has the advantage of largest SCharger network in the country. That kind of makes you wonder, "What's the point?".
the point of a large supercharger network? For accessibility during road trips. Not sure what your asking.

If only all my trips were NY to LA -
All of the upcoming all-electric models from Hyundai, Kia and Genesis will be based on this solution, which offers high-capacity batteries for long range (up to about 300 miles), dual motor all-wheel drive and ultra-fast charging capability (0-80% charge in under 18 minutes in the case of Kia EV6).
This particular Kia EV6 is the one that set a new Guinness World Record in terms of the shortest charging time on a journey across the U.S. (from New York City to Los Angeles) - 7 hours 10 minutes and 1 second.
The Kia EV6 model which is expected to enter the U.S. market in Q1 2022.

Running out of juice?. Well, that just shouldn't happen assuming the software of the vehicle is working. The vehicle knows where all the charge points are. Its just a matter of telling the vehicle where you are going. The vehicle will figure out where you have to stop for charging. If there is no infrastructure on the route you would know that and you simply wouldn't do the trip. No different than a gas half ton. Charging infrastructure is excellent in some places and crappy in others. It will get better.
Getting stuck in a multi mile backup, or blizzard, or natural disaster. This is where EV's do quite well. You can sit in an EC for days with the heat or AC on. In a truck the battery would be huge. You could probably truck camp for a week in the truck with the HVAC on. I know our car uses about 8 to 12 percent over a 12 hour period when in camp mode. That is from personal experience. The 7 pin trailer connector stays active in camp mode on those vehicles with towing packages so one can send 12 volts back to the RV to keep the trailer battery up
The rivians are already in (slow) production so I'm sure there will be some real world reports out in the next 3 to 6 months.
