...I have been reading a few articles re gas price speculation. It’s kinda hard to follow and there are lots of opinions. Essentially the gas and diesel companies are losing about five thousand customers per day on a worldwide level. Essentially 5000 cars without gas tanks hitting the road every day. In the big scheme of things probably not that much. But in a couple years that will be 10,000...PER DAY...and so on and so on. At what point do gas and oil companies start to notice. Two years, five years. Do they start to drop their prices to slow the transition?

It’s going to be an interesting decade.

5000 a day is 1,825,000 a year. Tesla built 500,000. Who built the other 75%. You keep telling us that Tesla is the only volume.

Well, there are about 40 companies producing EV’s. Many out of China and Europe. Tesla built at a rate of about 2000 cars per day in the last quarter. My guess is the rest of the 5000 consist of companies like VW, Nissan, Xping, Kia, Volvo, Hyundai, Ford, GM Chrysler etc. You would have to google it to see where the numbers came from.

Tesla is the only volume in North America.

Or I just say you are making up data. I know the answer. You are not correct. So please identify the companies and volume.

Heh heh. [emoticon]. I’ll let you go the googling. Like i said. These are just numbers I read in a composite of articles. It was hard to follow and there were a bunch of opinions. I have no idea if they are right. Do some googling and form your own opinion.

You are probably more in touch with GM numbers than most. How many EV’s are they producing per day right now. My guess is about 75 per day....ish.???

Cheer.

True, there may be those who won't be able to wait and buy any other EV out there..

I for one would have dropped off from my. Cybertruck reservations had Ford come up with their EV pick up that has comparable capabilities and competitive price.

The reality is there is nothing out there that can compete with Tesla and they have the track records and brand equity that buyers are willing to wait -- and speaking for myself I'm in several months in waiting.

To be clear, No state or provinces are banning gas or diesel vehicles. They are banning the sale of new vehicles with tail pipes by a certain date. The exception is Japan that may ban any vehicles with a tail pipe by 2035, or 5 years after their sale of new vehicles with tail pipe ban date. It is not law yet.
Last I read Japan structures ownership cost to encourage buying new cars and the old ones are exported. Registration and inspection costs increase as the vehicle ages.

Tons of left hand drive vehicles in Vladivostok where they drive on the right. Did I say that right? Anyway the cars are reverse.

Maybe thats the reason for all those car acidents in Russia [emoticon]

If the oil companies were smart they would adopt the adage, "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Maybe to some extent they already have. Somebody with a clue will start seriously pushing the concept of standardized level 3 charging. Superchargers for Teslas are great, but the idea of brand-specific charging will seem as silly in 50 years as the idea of having to take your Chevy to a GM gas station does now. Granted, people will do the vast majority of charging at home, but for EVs to go mainstream and make ICE cars obsolete, charging on the road will need to be as quick and convenient as filling up your car with gas.

I said that from the get go, if telsa licensed its battery tec and charging stations. We dont need another beta, lol. Anyone remember that? Better technology but lost out to VHS. Just because tou have the best technology dosen't nessassarly mean you walk away with the win. Im not bashing tesla, if it seems like that im sorry , just curious as to where this all leads. And yes i know the ban is just for new cars sold. Thats pretty much what were talking about now, the automobiles future.

Well, Tesla has always said that any car company can jump on board with the Supercharger network. But of course they have to contribute to its development. So far none have done that.

The other thing Tesla requires is that other electric vehicles charging at their Superchargers must be able to charge just as fast. Otherwise they would clog up the chargers. A Chevy bolt charges at 70 KW. A Tesla model 3 AWD charges at 250 KW, With the exception of the Porsche Taycan there are none although the Ford Mach E can charge at 150 KW which is a step in the right direction.

I don’t think the different charge standards will be an impediment. It’s marginal extra cost to put two or three connectors on a DC fast charger. Teslas can charge on any standard using adapters. We occasionally use a Chademo adapter.
