We are so close to buying our new TC! Have a hold on a 992, and a truck the dealer is trying to get from another dealer: ram 3500 cummins deisel DRW 6 seater. It seems like we need a lot of payload for us and the camper (approx 5400 lb). But I suppose that is camper living. I sure hope it works out.

Have you thought about an enclosed trailer to bring along things like bicycles, chairs and grills. This can also double as kids play room in bad weather.
X2. The enclosed trailer idea is a great idea. You can always put bunks that fold up against the wall when not in use. I think someone on the TC forum has done this.

If it helps, Truck Camper Magazine shows the wet weight may be a little lower than 5400. I found them correct on my 990.

Deltabravo,
Please don't feed the troll. This guy just wants to bash the AF brand because he had a so-called bad experience. He is also breaking forum rules by continuing to bash a manufacturer.

Well I'll tell you what I've found out. This is obvious once you see it, but being new to fitting TC to trucks, it has taken me a bit to figure it out. The 992, being slightly heavier requires a DRW. The 990 can be safely carried by at SRW Ram 3500. This is a BIG deal for us because it greatly reduces the cost and complexity of the rig.
I also just learned that wig the kitchen at the back the COG on the 992 is farther back, making the rig less tight (for lack of a better word).
Thought I would share with the hive of knowledge.

according to the link I listed a couple posts ago:
992 wet = 4887
990 wet = 4781
difference = 106 lbs. Please note, 13.25 gallons of water weighs 106 lbs.
as an energy saving idea, I run with maybe 15 gallons of water in my fresh tank in 990, than fill up the extra 45 (or 360 more lgs) when I get near my destination.
But I am not recommending a SRW or Dually with this post.

My AF990 weighed, 4,880 lbs. with a full tank of water, batteries, propane and our gear for a 2 week trip. I would not put a AF TC on a SRW truck without extensive modifications. They are heavy.
