Anyone know how much power a Tekonsha P3? The set-up in my truck is always powered up (even with key off)and I would like to put a switch. Would the controller keep settings with no power

? The p3 will auto shut off and it is 12 volt. Maybe I don't understand your question.

Not sure I understand your question but the P3 when not in use simply goes to sleep and power draw is minimal. Mine's been in my truck since I installed it years ago, never take it out.

Yeah, mine will stay on for a few minutes after the truck is shut down, but goes to sleep after a couple minutes, not sure exactly how long.

Maybe your unit is faulty.

Back when I had one it was on all the time as well. I don't recall it ever going to sleep.
Disconnecting the battery might let you know about the settings.

Unplug my P3, stuff it into the carry case and put it into the toolbox or store it in the garage electronics/testers/etc toolbox

ETrailer Q/A, How To Turn Off The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195

Question:

I have the P3 brake unit. I dont pull very often, how do I turn it off other then unplugging.

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller, # 90195, does not have an on and off switch.

It will go into sleep mode after several minutes of no activity.

The power draw when it is in the sleep mode is so negligible that it will not discharge the battery.

If you want the brake controller totally off, then you would have to unplug the connector from the back of the controller.

Mine just turns itself off after a few minutes. It has been sitting all winter and I never have any trouble. I just started the truck to go into a pre spring check things over kinda thing and the battery was still fully charged after sitting since the last week in October of last year.

If yours is not shutting down automatically you have to have a faulty unit.

It goes to sleep after 15 minutes when pedal was last pressed, whether vehicle is running or not, whether trailer is connected or not.
