Could it be that teams are souping up the guns? Racers will be racers after all, and I'd go look at and test the 48's guns first[emoticon].

yes that is exactly what the big money teams were doing
they were spending a couple million a year (every year) to try and develop a faster and faster air wrench to help them be quicker in the pits. not all teams could afford to do this and the ones that could kept what they learned and developed in house and didnt share with the others(all part of being competitive in racing)

so the teams went to the RTA and asked them to get NASCAR to do something about it

what they did is what we now see, every one gets assigned air guns for the weekend and then return them at the end of the weekend.then the next weekend they do the whole lottery thing again and you dont know if you will be getting the same guns you had the previous weekend or not. the returning of them and the lottery for the air guns is done to keep teams from modifying them while they have them.if NASCAR issued a team a gun for the entire season, the ones who had done all the R?D in the past would still have the info and modify them once again. so the lottery it is.

why not, thats more or less what this new optical scanning system does for the cars.

NASCAR sure knows how to screw up their own sport.and they have been doing it for years now.they claim its all to level the playing field.

if thats what they really want why not just do like they did for IROC.
have one group of people build and set up all the cars exactly the same and then just do a lottery for thedrivers to get what ever car for the weekend

Let me quess. Would it be because they want to make as much money as possible? IROC might've been fun for some people, but it sure wasn't a formula whereby anyone could make some real money.
It's obvious to me that what happened in Las Vegas on Sunday (what I saw) is that NASCAR is financially successful. I only wish that I was the one collecting the money. NOW, I'm not saying that there was good racing going on (there wasn't). IF you want to see good racing just go to a properly proportioned 1/2 mile dirt track (like Kokomo) that promotes NON-WING Sprint Cars (at least 30 of them for the main).

Sunday was one of the few times I took a nap during a race.
Does anyone know if the teams keep the same air guns from Friday to Sunday? If it was me I would be tearing those guns apart on Friday and reverse engineering some hot rod parts, then pull them out after the race. Unless they are sealed.

Hey Cloud Dancer...I prefer sprints and midgets as well. I have a question for you...We've been to the 4 Crown races at Eldora, midgets at Montpelier, Indy Fairgrounds Silver Crown, Chili Bowl, and dirt races all around Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Do all the midwest tracks run as dry as what we saw at Eldora? We couldn't see the backstretch for the dust. Wife ain't too crazy about going back. I will admit it's a looong way from LIberty TX to watch cars go around in circles.
We have tickets to Bristol, Richmond, Kings Royal, Nascar trucks at Eldora, and 4 Crown this year.

to my understanding, from what ia have heard on the NASCAR channel on sirius
they use the same guns all weekend long, but have to turn them in at the end of each day. this is done to prevent them from modifying the guns. i would bet that nascar has all of the fasteners on the gun case sealed to prevent tampering too

Dump the cup cars and stick the drivers in NASCAR Modifieds! Some of the best asphalt racing ever seen.......

I think the cars should be raised to have the ground clearances of the cars they are supposed to represent and have bodies built to the dimensional specs of said cars. Let 'em keep the tubular frames with all the safety equipment.

Regarding the processing of the clay soil on a dirt track: Dry dusty dirt tracks, for the most part, happen because of lack of knowledge, lack of proper equipment, insufficient funds, insufficient water supply, wrong dirt composition, etc etc. Also, luck plays a part. I learned it the hard way.
Step by step instructions takes too long to type out. Sorry

I don't need the step by step. It just seems that what I've seen the tracks up north run a lot drier. Around here the tracks start very wet and are usually still moist through the night, with a cushion . Of course if a cool front comes through with a north wind and low humidity they will dry out and need more water. Eldora should have plenty of knowledge and water. They have a lake at the track. Stewart should know what to do. He has been on the tractor at the last several Chili Bowls.
I was basically just wondering if it was a Midwest thing to run so dry.
