Topic: Nascar Follies

Posted By: PawPaw_n_Gram on 12/13/17 07:02am

Has anyone heard any rumors about whether or not Monater Energy will renew their sponsorship of the Cup series?

The original deadline was a few days ago. Monster asked for a delay until late January back in September.

Do you think agreeing to sponsor Kurt Busch in 2018 means Monster will still be the Cup sponsor in 2019?

Anyone's guess I suppose. Since the original deal seemed last minute and Monster's track presence appeared minimal (to me) I wonder if they struggle with exactly how the brand fits with NASCAR, or if it fits at all especially with regard to return on their investment.

No bigger fan than me...over the years going way back, we (wife and I) have spent a ton of money putting our butts in the seats at many, many races.

I'm just a sad fan. The state of affairs, Nascar's decline, and in Brian France make me sad. "Follies," most definitely.

What not to like? Let's see, Car of Tomorrow, Car of Tomorrow V 2.0, rules, rules, and more rules, followed by rule changes, rule changes, and more rule changes. Green White Checkers, (just doesn't do it for me), race to the checkers with a wreck, to throw the caution or not throw the caution, that is the question. Too much technology, NASCAR NEXT. Other than Kyle Larson, Daniel Suarez, and maybe Bubba Wallace (who I think can stand on his own merit and talent, like Larson) what has it accomplished?

Endless pursuit of the elusive 'parity' that seems to have created parity among four teams: Hendrick, Gibbs, Penske, and SHR. Everyone else lacks the bucks, so no Buck Rogers for them.

TV coverage: Too many commercials because the networks willingly paid waaay too much money for broadcast rights. Now the sinking ratings are biting them in the butt for it. Too many 'On Air' Waltrips, and PUHLEEZE NBC, give Rutledge Wood his pink slip.

Other than that things are fine..........Wait! Send Brian France packing. He's not up to the task.

I said Danica was good for Nascar, I never said she was good for the racing. She cooked her own goose with that sponsor fuss.
BTW thas was Petty's Winston Cup pit crew in the pics above. The lack of pit safety in the pic is just crazy compared to today. Back then it was the Mason Dixon 500.

OK, I got it. It's not really NASCAR that's generating all the criticism, it's just certain individuals. So, if we could only eliminate "THEM"everything would be lovely.
Danica is the first one to go.
Brad Keselowski is the second must go.
Joey Logano, etc

Nope...no criticism from me about drivers. They just work there. My beef is aimed at Nascar management.

The drivers are in the hole doing the digging... while management (Brian France) is standing on the edge of the hole drinking a latte and telling the diggers how to dig....except using his orders, the dirt is falling back into to hole faster the the diggers can dig it out.....

IMO the only way that anyone has a chance at managing NASCAR is if they come with credentials, a performance bond(guaranteed with plenty of cash), and looks good on TV. In other words, it's like I've always said. Their business, their rules. Take it or leave it. IMO it's going to die, but it'll take its sweet time doing it. We might have to pay to watch it on TV,....that's when I will go RVing and fishing with the grand-grand kids.
