Congratulations to him, his family, his crewchief and crew, and his team owner, and his sponsors. And congratulations to NASCAR, what a boost for them. Interesting the lead mechanic on the car was from the Australian Supercar Roadracing series. Quote:

Craik is an engineer on Truex Jr’s #78 Toyota, which the 37-year-old drove to victory in the season-ending Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a race which finished as a head-to-head battle between he and fellow Championship 4 contender Kyle Busch. Known as ‘Killer’, Craik joined the team in 2015 from Andretti Autosport’s IndyCar program, having previously worked for Britek Motorsport and Kelly Racing in Supercars. |

Cloud Dancer wrote: ![]() Her entire racing history is "an open book". Obviously, she's a financial success. She might even make it into the Hall of Fame. But, IMO I'm a better racecar driver than she will ever be. However, she achieved fame and fortune and I did NOT. I admire her very much. She's got many more fans than most middle of the pack drivers. Including myself ....my wife and all four of my grand daughters age 17-27. She has hero status among lots of old and young women. At least she walked the walk and did a decent job of it in her short career. Like J. Johnson commented "she does a better job than "some other NASCAR drivers". All I'll say about Danica - have you got any idea how good a driver has to be to be in the bottom half of the drivers on the track in a NASCAR Cup race?

How about Kurt Busch, does he have a ride? He hasn't been in a champ-quality ride in many years. Just consider everything that it takes to win a championship. In this regard, this last "run for the roses" was amazing.

Thinking his age and past history are working against him.... Gene Haas obviously saw something in him but...... |

Danica doesn't play well with others. It blocks the talent from being recognized properly.

No better than being a midpack runner in IndyCar??? ![]() Whether anyone wants to acknowledge it, Danica's biggest asset was the Go Daddy sponsorship. Once that left, her fortunes shifted downward, though still handsomely paid. Her ability as a driver remained unchanged.....average. |

Huge endorsement from Roger Penske on Scott Mcloughlin the new " Rick Meares" although Scott drives a sedan rather an open wheeler.bYes he could run in a NASCAR road race in a Penske car Scott McLaughlin new Casey Meares Quote:
![]() He may have lost the title that was his for the taking, but Scott McLaughlin is a champion in the eyes of his legendary big boss Roger Penske. Describing McLaughlin’s signing with DJR Team Penske as “the best move we’ve made” in his three-year ownership, Penske has forgiven him for squandering his big points lead in Sunday’s chaotic Newcastle 500 finale. McLaughlin’s valiant-but-flawed efforts to recover from two penalties only increased Penske’s admiration for the young Kiwi, whom the iconic American team owner likens to IndyCar great Rick Mears. No driver among Team Penske’s all-star roster of drivers over the past 50 years is more revered by ‘The Captain’ than Mears, winner of a record-equalling four Indianapolis 500s and holder of the all-time mark of six Indy 500 poles. It’s McLaughlin’s commitment that earned the glowing comparison, reminding Penske of the dauntless CART-era Indycar hero. “I think back to how Rick Mears could dig deep when he was qualifying at Indy,” Penske told Speedcafe.com. “McLaughlin is a carbon copy because it seems he knows what he wants, and he goes out and gets it.” Mears, now 67 and still working with Team Penske’s IndyCar program as driver coach/advisor, was renowned for lifting for the big occasions. As well as a milestone 16 poles this season – including a new ‘Lap Of the Gods’ at Bathurst – the 80-year-old transport tycoon was impressed by McLaughlin’s championship challenge in his first season with DJR Team Penske. “He delivers the goods for us,” Penske said. “We watched him for a couple of years and had the opportunity to put a deal together with him when he was available, and I tell you, we’ll never look back. “It’s the best move we’ve made.” High praise from the most experienced and successful team owner in international motor racing, who excuses McLaughlin for the under-pressure errors that cost DJR Team Penske the Supercars title double. “When a guy wins eight races and 16 pole positions, you’d have to say he’s also a champion,” Penske said. “Maybe he’s not getting the trophy, but he did a helluva job.” He is also full of praise for McLaughlin’s attitude and infectious personality. |
