Perhaps the days of the BIG 7 figure driving contracts are fading into the sunset in deference to the current sponsorship and economic realities facing NASCAR

It is very likely someone like Aric to make a seven figure salary. What he won’t get is the eight figure base that most of the big ‘stars’ demanded in the past. But he certainly doesn’t have the five or ten million guaranteed base like Kurt or Matt requires. Aric is likely running for a 50-80,000 per race base, 15-20% of the purse and a similar percentage of the points money. Very likely Chase, Ryan, Eric and Daniel are running for a similar salary deal. Plus, bringing sponsorship dollars with him is a huge plus over Kurt or Matt. That has been a big part of a driver getting a ride as long as NASCAR, or other racing, has existed. Smithfield is NOT willing to pay for a championship contender driver/ car/ team. Like Danica, Aric’s car will get second or third best parts behind Harvick and Bowyer, the third or fourth string crew chief and pit crew. Performance of the team won’t change much. But the bottom line for SHR will improve. Racing and who gets to drive has always been about the dollars. Poor Denny. But that's just racing.

I wonder if Chase’s dad or someone like Jimmie will explain to him how he let Matt win the race. When he pushed so hard to get in front, I mentioned to the wife that Matt was letting Chase have the position because Chase was wearing out his tires, and Matt has the experience to know that in 20 laps he would be fast enough to take back the lead and the win. |

I never heard Chase whine about the low class move Denny put on him earlier. |

Chase went to Winners Circle and congratulated Matt. Denny went home to cry.

Regardless of what side of this Chase/Denny drama you are on...you all do realize that this kind of stuff is just what Nascar needs...

Denny has been a little ***** his whole career in my opinion. Talented but whiny. Karma came to him yesterday. I'll look at the DVR when we get home but saw it live on TV and it looked like to me that the 11 came down on the 24 when he knew that he had lost the position and it cost him dearly. Two of my favs are in, the 2 and 18. When was the last time a Chevy wasn't in contentionjavascript:; at Homestead? Puma 30RKSS ![]() |
