Topic: Nascar Follies

Practical solution, what does it mean, in the context of the "NASCAR problem"?
In the first place, one would have to identify the exact problem that we are talking about. And, then what will happen is that once we start doing that, right away we will realize that everyone's version would be different than the one that would be explained by NASCAR. However, at this time, we would have to wait until NASCAR explains THEIR version of the problem. IMO NASCAR is NOT going to go there. IMO NASCAR is NOT going to eliminate those racetracks in which the chance of producing good racing is slim to none. IMO the design/configuration of the racetrack itself has a great deal to do with the goal of producing good racing. On top of that, the exact race car "formula" has to be complimentary to the proper configuration of the racetrack. Like I have been saying, NASCAR is not going to go there. Therefore, IMO there's no practical solution.
IMO only NASCAR can decide at what point it's no longer profitable/viable.
BTW I've been watching as much dirt-track sprint car racing as I can find on TV. Guess what, the grandstands are pretty empty there also.

Cloud, the boy (Brian) doesn't understand the KISS theory! He never did and further more never will. His Grandfather and Dad certainly did. Now to see this AM that they are looking at onboard jacking systems to eliminate the jackmen, this just exemplifies my first sentence in this post. Not only does the word jackman come into play here, so does jackass.

I just don't see where the KISS principle applies. IMO the business of auto racing at the highest level is going to be complicated, period. And, I don't understand the resentment towards Brian France. NASCAR is owned by the France family, a dynasty. IMO of all the family members available, Brian was the best choice. I don't think he asked for the job. I'm sure that he would prefer to sell the whole thing, and tell everyone where to go. IMO nobody in their right business mind would want to buy NASCAR. If I had the money, it's the LAST thing that I would consider buying.
BTW onboard jacks IMO is a great idea. It will possibly save the racecar owners gobs of money (and eliminate lots of headaches). We'll have to wait and see what new problems will result.

Apples and oranges..... The monies involved with dirt track and NASCAR are magnitudes apart!

The exact problem is easy --- Declining attendance, viewership and revenues.

The exact causes are a little more difficult --- Boring racing, all cars look alike, drivers are forced to play nice or incur the wrath of NASCAR. A points system that while getting better, still focuses too little on winning races and leading laps.

The solutions are even more difficult --- Allow the manufacturers to actually design their own cars, to a much greater extent. Limit NASCAR interference to only DRIVER SAFETY issues? Shorter races? Fewer races? A points system even more heavily weighted toward winning races and leading laps? If driver A hates driver B, don't punish them for making it known to the public. If driver A is blocking a faster driver B and a crash results, don't force them to hug, shake hands and buy each other dinner.

As I said previously...... A CLEAN SLATE is needed. The current downward trend is just going to spiral out of control, especially once sponsorship and TV monies begin to dry up. We're seeing the beginnings of that now, as so many races have moved from the major, to secondary networks. the next TV contract renewal should be very telling............

Sorry, I should've explained that my statement was in reference to what I said previously,...that many changes were occurring throughout the country and the world and in the motorsports from the bottom to the top.
Also, I'm the only one that I know who designed and built a racetrack for the purpose of proving that it should NOT cost THAT much money to compete and lose,....in hobby racing. Therefore, I came up with Formula Sprint, a set of rules for sprint cars which not only lowered the cost of a competive racecar, but ALSO put on excellent racing (on MY design of racetrack). Incidently, I also made quite a bit of money at it. So, yes I know a lot about the cost of racing.

Perhaps Brian France already did. Found a Wall Street Journal story from earlier this year, reporting that Brian may have sold his share of NASCAR to his sister and Uncle Jim nearly a decade ago. Doesn't attend a lot of races; does that sound like an engaged executive? Neither France, France family or NASCAR would comment for the article.

Tony Stewart even recently lamented that France shows minimal interest and engagement in NASCAR. Since Tony himself is a track owner, team owner and newly minted race series owner, perhaps he knows of what he speaks?

Yeah, YEAH,....let them get Tony Stewart to solve the NASCAR problems...[emoticon]
Stranger things have happened.

Just saying, he's in the industry, he made a valid observation IMHO regarding Brian France. Stewart is 'in the game' maybe he has something to offer.

My weekend prediction: Kyle Busch finally gets a Cup win this year.
