Regardless of what everyone thinks, I give NASCAR a grade of A for surviving and for being relevant,...at the highest level of stock car racing.

The mountains and trees block the signal. I love the road courses mainly because they allow different pit strategies to work. Well that is what we miss here in Australia. Watkins Glen, Canadian track in Quebec produced some pretty good racing. NASCAR did not grasp, that racing was internationally relevant and they have allowed it too wither.,Not many Australians or anyone else are fascinated by the somewhat boring ovals |

It's increasingly looking like Matt won't be driving Cup next year, and there is no news out of Kurt's camp either. The young guns are getting snapped up at an alarming rate however. I wonder if charter owners aren't feeling the sponsor pinch more than we realized and are going to the young guys that they don't have to pay as much. With the HMS announcement yesterday about William Byron taking over the #5 car Cup is starting to look like high school. I certainly agree that they can drive, but they don't yet have the rabid fan base that NASCAR needs to keep this all going. Time will tell, hope it all works out for everybody. Like Cloud and some others here I'll watch it until it's over. Puma 30RKSS ![]() |

I was reading this article where Dale Jr. discusses the issue of driver pay. Quote: ![]() "But one thing that’s changed is that you’ve got a lot of young guys coming in being offered and accepting contracts that are a fifth to a tenth of what veterans are getting paid. And, that’s money that can go into the team, you know? "These sponsors aren’t giving teams the money that they used to. So, the owners and everybody’s got to take a little cut. Everybody’s got to dial it back. Everybody’s got to realize that they have to accept some of that fallback and difference. And that’s the same with the drivers’ contracts. A lot of these veteran drivers are getting paid multimillion dollars; and a lot of these guys coming in are getting a fraction of that."... You can’t pay a driver 5 to 8 million dollars a year if you ain’t got but $10 million worth of sponsorship... The same thing very well could happen to Kurt Busch, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin. http://autoweek.com/article/nascar/dale-........ver-contract-market-has-corrected-itself |

I was looking at the race schedule for this weekend and noticed that xfinity will be racing at the mid-ohio road course. Has anybody watched this race in the past? Just curious how it compares to the shows at Sonoma and the Glen? If I remember maybe I'll try and tune in and check it out. Took a quick look at the entry list. 42 teams, no cup regulars as they are elsewhere that weekend. And Morgan Shepherd is celebrating his 50th year driving a race car. Morgan is 76 years old. |

Mid Ohio racetrack is probably a top contender for becoming the next road course to be added to the Monster Energy Drink schedule. It produces a good racing show to the TV audience. It's perfect for the new generation of underpaid hotshot drivers. Plus, my man Kyle Busch can win there, no problem.... ![]() |

How about the road course in Wisconsin? Road America is it? Road courses are enjoyable to watch for me because it's not entirely the car. The driver really has to be on his/her game. Waaay more than point it straight with foot to the floor, turn left, wash, rinse, repeat. |

Barnie Visser stated at this point, he has no sponsorship for the #77 next season. 3 of 4 SHR teams aren't fully funded for the balance of this season, let alone next. William Bryon replacing Kasey Kahne in the HMS #5 might be the best example of doing more with less that Dale Junior was referring to. Kyle Larson has lost Target. Even Monster, has yet to indicate what their intentions might be beyond 2018 as Series sponsor. The times, they are a changin'............. |

I was flabbergasted by the meager turnout at Michigan Int'l Speedway last weekend - it's a GREAT track, good visibility for spectators, wide enough to see some real racing action; and doesn't require the "partnering" of the superspeedways. Plus it's MICHIGAN - we live for cars here. I'd guess the stands were half-filled? I remember when you used to have to order tickets for a race ASAP, or they would be sold out a couple months before the race.....
