I don't know if Dale Jr. is still seeing the doctor in Pittsburgh, but I suggest he make an appointment for tomorrow (Monday). In the interview after he dropped out, he said "really nice to see the stands full". Still might be vision problem lingering!

What happened to the #18 is the same thing that happened to the #4. Whenever a tire fails at 170 + mph, and the racecar is equipped with safety liners (like a small inflated tire inside the regular tire), the racecar wiggles slows down, get's tapped on the side or from behind, and it goes out of control. And, the rest is history,....except that we saw it happen. There might've been some debris on the racetrack. IMO the practical usefulness of high-banked superspeedways has expired. IMO it's pretty much impossible for this type of racetrack configuration to produce a good auto-racing show. That's the reason NASCAR has turned them into a SPECTACLE,..... with threads of folly sewn in for good measure. Smallest crowd I've ever seen for the July Cup race either on TV or in person. Sad and probably making the Speedway folks a bit nervous. Gotta pay for that big dollar remodel somehow. |

Many good cars wrecked that could have won and Danica still can't make the top 20. What a wasted ride. RT |

Still looked empty even with the colored seats, especially from exit of turn 4 into the tr ioval and down into turn 1. |

Cloud Dancer is right, that was a spectacle, not racing. Martinsville meets Talledega. Might as well have been a figure 8 track for all the torn up cars.

The track started hounding me in early May to buy tickets. I think they saw the train wreck coming. They even called me in late June and I certainly never gave them my cell number. One thing is for sure in Daytona in early July. The heat and humidity are stifling, we did it once, never again. Feb for me! Puma 30RKSS ![]() |

If you are a student of science, and in particular if you are a student of racecar design and racecar chassis dynamics, AND if you are a student of auto racing promotions, AND a student of race track design,......you might agree that in order to have a chance of producing a racing show which is "worth the money", there has to be good match between the raceCAR design and the racetrack design. IMO you can readily see how/why NASCAR has evolved into a serious mismatch of racecar performance vs racetrack design. At least, this is what explains to me what's wrong with the show at Daytona. IMO NASCAR is NOT going to shut down Daytona, nor Talladega. And, at this point there's nothing that they can do with the racecar rules that would solve the problem. ME? I'm NOT going to watch NASCAR racing at either of these two racetracks. And, I might add a couple of more of their racetracks (in solving my problem). But, I'm interested in seeing if the Phoenix experience/remodeling will improve the racing show. IMO the shorter racetracks, and the road courses, still have a chance. |

The best 400 I attended was the 1998 race rescheduled to the fall because of the horrible wildfires that year. Speedway was used as staging area for crews and equipment. When the race was held, beautiful weather and I got discounted tickets they offered to firefighters. |
