I do like Sonoma. Even qualifying is pretty interesting. Great camera locations/coverage as well. Kyle Larson is on fire. Should be a good one tomorrow. |

I remember his Dad for having to fill in for Dale Sr after Sr bailed on the Goodwrench hospitality tent over and over. They always sent Joe over to entertain us, he is a really nice human. No surprise that the son is also. * This post was edited 06/25/17 06:58am by an administrator/moderator * |

When It Rains It Pours? First, Kyle's real crew chief is suspended for 3 races for a loose wheel on the car, now his replacement chief is suspended for 1 race for the same infraction? I know someone's gotta take the rap before 'Judge NASCAR', but has it occurred to someone at Joe Gibbs Racing they need to replace the the wrench guy(s)? |

Perhaps the rule book needs a massage, or two. I'm having difficulty reconciling penalizing the crewchief AND the driver, just because a wrench guy fails to tighten a couple of lug nuts. Of course, I don't know exactly what or how it happened either. All I can do is think:.....no worries, it's time for Kyle Busch to win Daytona.......![]() |

Agree. Keep hearing how these over the wall guys are the cream of the crop, superb athletes, etc. Yet, Kyle can't get his nuts tight.![]() I don't even really fault a driver for this infraction, they are all conditioned to 'go' the moment they sense the jack dropping, plus they likely have the crew chief doing that GO, GO, GO!!! thing in their ear. The crew members are hit in the wallet, maybe they should serve the suspension instead of the crew chief. Seems like that's more incentive to get it right; carried to it's logical end, keeping screwing up like that and they're reading the want ads........ |

It is the "Commanding Officer" principle. Someone has to be in charge and that position carries ultimate responsibility. The crew chief is that guy in NASCAR. As far as driver points penalties, nothing else really matters. You know from your promoter days that a fine almost certainly means nothing. If the crew chief didn't check the car weight, and it was light at the scales after the ace, you didn't penalize the crew chief did you? You disqualified the car and the driver got no points along with no money. The teams lobbied NASCAR to no longer have the pit road officials call a car back to the pits if they thought the lug nuts were not tight. NASCAR allowed the teams to self enforce lug nuts. That failed. The rule now is a compromise between the teams and the drivers and NASCAR. I would be very surprised if JGR has not taken some serious action against the over the wall guys. We just don't hear about "internal personnel actions". But only 19 cars even opted to practice, the rest apparently deciding to save their stuff for qualifying and the race.
