OK - my .02. I am avid NASCAR fan and enjoy it, well I used to. Let me start by saying that I think it is to scripted. Competition cautions to allow everyone to catch up, 8 caution laps to pick up a piece of debris, this new stage racing is exciting but now we waste 6-8 laps getting everyone into the pits to get serviced and ready to go. Ever wonder why Carl left the sport - maybe some writing on the wall. My thought would be if debris is found on the track, throw a caution and go get it. Once that debris is picked up go green. Why wait for everyone to go get service? That would make for every one to make a decision and a quick one. Pricing for races has been consistent. Camping is well - high in some places and free in others. We frequent Charlotte every year. This year after our renewal /purchase we were told that our campground (Peninsula) was being shut down and we had to move. They should have known that prior to selling our sites. Then at the end of April NASCAR and Charlotte came to a consensus that their only night race of the chase (BOA 500) should be run a on a Sunday now instead of Saturday night. They made a change mid year of the schedule after everyone makes reservations and schedules vacation time. We cannot change our plans so we will miss the Sunday race as we have to leave for home Sunday morning like normal. Why couldn't they change it next year so everyone could make arrangements. They only offered a credit to our account and not a refund due to them stating " we are not cancelling the event, only rescheduling it for another day". Grrr - not happy. Anyways, we like to share time with all of our friends at the races as we treat it like a vacation where there is a race going on. |

prfssr, I could add a bit of insight, due to the fact that I designed, constructed, and operated a racetrack (on my own 52 acres of land). Except, that I have to tell you that the basic problem that all big-time auto racing has, is that there is NO actual racing of the type that we have seen many years previous to today. IMO there is NO practical solution to this major problem. What we see is that the racing association owners keep trying many different changes,...which do not have a chance of solving the main problem. Under the circumstances, that's all they can do. Most of the problems that you speak about are incidental to the main problem. IMO if it weren't for the revenue which comes from television rights, they would be out of business right away. So, when TV dollars dry up, it'll be the end. That's why I keep saying that I'm going to enjoy watching the races on TV until the end (of me, or them). Well I have said many times in posts here, the ink is never dry in the FRANCECAR rule book. Yes they told the drivers about the box change in the drivers meeting, but changing rules during the season is what they do best! And besides, keep in mind, that not only drivers and crew chiefs are in that meeting but groups of people that have no business attending, in other words, invitees. The Richmond Times Dispatch has some excellent articles this week from Sundays race.

Junior can't buy a break on the track. Is that OK for you? He certainly got a break at birth. The overhead shot comment was in reference to the empty seats. In my former business world you didn't advertise your failures. The 18 was upset because it was the 22 that snookered him. I think he was mostly upset with himself. * This post was edited 05/03/17 05:47am by an administrator/moderator * Puma 30RKSS ![]() |

On the overhead shot, look again. IMO it was about the number of seats that were occupied and the number of cars in all the parking areas. In other words, the glass is half full, not half empty. You gotta stay positive. Junior has been a goldmine for NASCAR, and now Chase Elliot will try and take his place. Things change. I no longer ask why they can't stay the same,......me and my ole flip-top cell phone..... ![]() Kyle Busch is a poor loser, that's not news either. Just remember, he's there for OUR entertainment. And, now come 'Dega! Jr has a great track record there. But, I'll be rooting for Kyle Busch. |

In other words, the glass is half full, not half empty. RIR president's comments in one of the columns from the Richmond Times referenced by bobsallyh would indicate his glass is full.....of worry. I read some of the reader comments. Found it interesting some of the gripes I had about Daytona (regarding concessions which used to be run by civic groups and independent vendors replaced by corporate 'Big Food and 'food courts) are also being voiced by Virginia race fans. That's nothing more than ISC siphoning every buck they can get by charging 'big food' licensing fees as 'official this and that of 'Insert Track Name Here'. It's my sorrow over the loss of the fried baloney sandwich I used to get at Daytona again...... ![]() |

What can I say? What I want to say has already been said, many times: When you starve with the tiger, the tiger will be the "last man standing" (NASCAR). |

I recall a BBQ baloney sandwich in Granbury TX, and it truly was very good. I wonder if that BBQ place is still there. GO KYLE BUSCH! I know you're still saving a bumper for sliced bread. |
