Topic: Ordered Host Mammoth

Posted By: zb39 on 12/20/17 08:53am

At some point I would want a cabinet between the camper and the headache rack. I will put the spare there initially. I am thinking of bolting a piece of steel or aluminum to the bed for the camper to bump up against. Actually there are rubber stops built into the camper that will contact the steel or aluminum. I will not be going custom although I have a local guy who could make some changes to the stock bed. The beds I'm looking at have steel frames underneath the bed. Is your 1 hitch factory or did it come with the bed. I assume the other is a TL super hitch.

My gooseneck is made by Curt and the receiver is a SuperHitch Magnum - Both are 30K lb rated. Chassis cabs do not come with any kind of hitch and the ones built into the rear skirt of most deck beds are not strong enough for use with a heavy trailer and extension..

I originally had my spare bolted to the headache rack and used wood blocks between the rack and camper bumpers to keep it from sliding forward when I had my Arctic Fox on the same truck. I have not had to use any side guides to keep the camper in place, but it would probably be easier to load.

The longer wheel base allows the 2nd fuel tank option (not sure with the 60") Are you getting that as well?

I did order the dual fuel tank option. 72 gal total. It is available on the 60 cab to axle also. With 5 6 gal diesel cans I am over 100 gallons. 1000 mile range roughly.

Truck should be here in a couple weeks. I am going to buy a CM RD steel bed for it. There is a dealer about an hour from me.

I think the DW would need a potty break by 1000 miles.....[emoticon]

7 pounds per gallon, if you are toting around an extra 50 gallons, that is an extra 350 weight. Not sure price savings at the pump would offset the extra weight.

Actually about every 200 miles. I was thinking about the new road in northern Canada and others. I wouldn't carry the fuel all the time. Just if i was going someplace way out of the way.
