I do the same thing bumpy. [emoticon] It's fun to watch their expression when they think I'm getting better mileage than their cars or they think I'm nuts. I usually follow up with the truth after having a little fun.

7 mpg and quoting Lily Tomlin, "And That's The Truth".

Actually, 7.03 mpg over 32255.2 miles. I just filled up yesterday.

Seance starting full time 4 years ago I have talked to many about what kind of millage I get they tell you theirs gets better millage than that. So I just figure. The first lair doesn't stand a chance. I tell them I have gotten as good as 10.2 and as bad as 4.5. The other thing I have told some is when I use my Toad which is a Jeep JK to push the MH down the road I get great MPG on the MH but the MPG on the Jeep sucks. This seams to make them try and think of a way to top that.

I'll tell them that we get about 6.5-7.0 mpg and then say 'what does your house get'?
(stole that from somebody as I thought it was a funny answer). They usually laugh.

MM.

I like your answer for those I think are really interested, anyone who is against our life style wouldn't care what I answered. A nice guy next to me at the Burbank Costco asked and my answer of my true mileage surprised him. He didn't think that pulling a car we could get up to 8.5 mpg. We ended up talking about the lifestyle and where we went last month and he seemed really interested in looking into RVs.

After all, when you're at the Beach or in the Mountains or what ever suits you, I bet your BP and PR goes down from your regular work week levels. It's a healthy lifestyle.

yep, gas mileage and RVs don't belong in the same sentence. if you are that worried, buy a tent and a Prius.
but it is like when gas prices peaked a while back and the answer is to just go to closer campgrounds. I guess the same would apply if you are anal about mileage.

I always tell them "My apartment gets better mileage than your house"
or
"It gets pretty good mileage for an apartment"
or
"It's smiles to the gallon not miles to the gallon"

Something like that.

I don't track MPG so frankly I don't really know for sure to offer an honest answer.

I don't try to be cutesy or sarcastic, I simply tell the absolute truth:
"Damifino, I don't check it or worry about it!"

However, I do carry a logbook, and enter all fuel purchases in it, so if I ever really wonder about my lack of fuel economy, I can figure it out. IMO, those who are really concerned about fuel economy should not have an RV of any kind!

A Ford Escort in a station, once asked me how much fuel I burned. After giving him an average, I explained that the overall cost of the trip, is what counted and that I would do better than he could in the car with months on the road, when considering motels and restaurant expense, along with his fuel cost.
As for doing better for MPG, I've found that slowing down and staying at Wally World on occasion, does wonders towards the cost of fuel.
The huge cost of depreciation per mile has to be chalked off to a hobby and least ways, if you own an RV, you won't need another one.
