What an exciting week. Nikki went over to her mother's house in Kennewick a couple weeks ago, for a 12 day stay. Then last Sunday I went up to Bellingham to visit my Mom for a few days. Tuesday evening, late, while up there, I had a very minor heart attack. Fortunately, Bellingham has good cardiac specialists and an excellent Cardio Vascular Unit. So Wednesday morning I had a heart Catheterization and two stents placed. So now I get to get used to lots of new drugs and some lifestyle changes. But imagine Nikki's excitement, when she got a semi-coherent voicemail Wednesday morning saying I had a heart attack. ![]() Came home Thursday, and we're doing fine now. John & Nikki Ahrens ![]() |

So glad you used the word "minor" John--but any heart attack is bad! Did you have any previous indication you had a problem? Thank goodness you were near good medical care and you are both back home. Take care of yourself!

John, so glad to hear that it was minor and you are ok. Welcome to our world. Sue got to do that ambulance ride in April in Yuma. So glad to hear that you are going to fine and so glad that the phone call did not put Nikki in the hospital. I had that angiogram two years ago in Yuma, what a fun thing to do....

Good grief John, your way too young for that kind of nonsense! Glad to hear that your doing alright and hopefully on your feet and on the way back to health. Need to throw it in and retire so you 2 can really enjoy that beautiful coach! Keep us informed of your progress. I met to mention this last week. Carolyn and I had lunch last Tues. with Bob & Holly up here in Federal Way. They are doing well and do miss the traveling. Sounds like Bob is somewhat dragging his heels getting the trailer cleaned out to put it up for sale, but I understand!! Took the rig up to Birch Bay several weeks ago and then a week down in Elma. Carolyn's cousin lives there and she told us about a fellow in Montesano that has restored a number of local horse drawn wagons and carriages that he has on display at his place. He spent 3 hours with us taking us through everything. Really a neat collection and he knew the local story for each one. Take care everyone. John, Glad to hear you are okay and it was just a "minor" heart attack. And you really shouldn't scare Nikki like that. Don't want her to have a heart attack do you? ![]() Well, I'm back on the unemployment line. Got laid off Friday. Wasn't exactly a surprise though. The company kept putting me on assignments where I had to learn new stuff, which was fine, but they didn't give me a lot of time to learn it or to get the job done. Oh well. Laura had some excitement on Saturday. Her and some family and friends went floating down the Stillaguamish (sp?) river and she got snagged up in a tree. The raft she was in flipped over and her legs got stuck in the tree. Took 3 boys and a couple fire rescue guys to get her loose, and several guys to carry her up the rugged trail to the road. She's okay, just really sore. 2003 Suburban K2500LT 4WD, 8.1L, 3.73 2008 Adirondack 31RK-DSL Our blog ![]() |

Linda, I had no idea. In retrospect, there may have been indications, if I knew what was going on, but nothing at the time. I really didn't believe it. The cardiologist actually used the word microscopic, so I'm in good shape. Bob, Nikki says to say is was close on the hospital thing for her. The SIM card in my phone died while in Bellingham, so I'd had to borrow someone else's phone to call her. Since it was an unfamiliar number, she didn't answer, so I had to leave a message. Ron, if I retired, I wouldn't be enjoying the coach for long, as the money would run out very quickly. Good to hear about Bob and Holly. Sorry that he has to give it up. David, sorry to hear you're on the unemployment line again. YOu guys still moving down to Lake Pleasant in August? Also sorry to hear about Laura's accident. That sounds scary and painful. |

jahrens wrote: Yep, still moving to Lake Pleasant on 8/23. Laura was pretty scared. Our son and daughter were with her on the float trip (I wasn't) and they were pretty scared too. From what I have been told, there were 4 or 5 guys holding her up so she wouldn't drown while a few more were trying to untangle her from the trees. They were close to shore, but the water was moving pretty fast and the water pressure gave them all a good fight to keep her above water. She says she feels pretty lucky to still be alive.

Yikes David - we know how Laura felt. Years ago when Carolyn and I first got together, we did several rivers. We had our 2 kids - early teens at that time - with a group from Group Health up on the Chilliwack River in BC. I was the only male in our raft and they gave us one of their new guides!! Well, he got us in trouble and under this big tree we went. It swept 4 of the 5 of us out of the raft. I was able to grab the side rope but still ended up under it with Gary, Carolyn's son. I was able to grab him by his life vest and get both of us back to the surface on the side of the raft. Carolyn and my daughter got knocked clear and the other guides had them back out of the water very quickly. LUCKLY, there were no branches in the water where the trunk knocked up out, or we would have been goners. I still have an occasional nightmare/flashback to that!! Needless to say, that ended our river rafting adventures! Glad to hear that she is OK. |

Yeah, I don't think Laura will be getting in a raft or floating a river any time soon. ![]() Okay, so back to more positive news! ![]() Did you hear on the news that we may be heading for the third or forth rainless July on record? Yeah, our grass is already brown. That usually doesn't happen until mid August. But that also means I won't have to mow it again! ![]() |

You know the old saying that the grass is always greener over the septic tank. Well, the only part of my yard that's green is the front and guess what's under it. The drain field. Well, the house is painted and the termites are gone and there is about a 10 sq foot area of new outside wall. Now,the next thing is Jeanne wants new carpet in the living room and they have to tear hole in the chimney before they can sleeve it,as evidently a bunch of bricks fell down and plugged it. Then there is a little problem with our electricity called an open ground that we have to get worked on. If I'm working on the MH,I have to unplug the shore power as I have grounded myself a couple of times.
