John, the batteries that Costco sell for the 6volt golf cart is made by Interstate and sells for $87 and change...I just put new ones in my coach as the old house batteries were 7 years old. Have fun putting them in. Six batteries will be a good test of how you are doing age wise....Bob

Well, we fled South Beach SP in Newport this morning. Had some sunshine this am and by the time I got the dogs walked and starting to disconnect everything, it was pouring down rain in sheets again! By the time we pulled out, it was dry.

Had talked to the host at the Elks club rv park down in Florence and she said that the wind had dropped way down and the sun was out and that confirmed what the weather forecasts were saying. Really wasn't bothered by the wind but hit several rain showers. Got into the Elks club park here in Florence in time to go into town and have some seafood chowder at the Firehouse Pub. We had it last year and we think that it is the best chowder that we have ever had! Going back for lunch tomorrow.

Tradewinds - hope your online. The Elks rv park here is GREAT! They also have the new edition of the Elkdom Travel Guide 1 that covers 6 western states. Would you like me to pick you up a copy? They are $15. I will see if they have Guide 2, which I assume is the rest of the country. Hope you see this before we leave.

For those who are computer literate almost all the Elks RV information is on the Elks website http://www.elks.org/lodges/LocalFacilities.cfm?LookFor=3&Submit=Facilities

Also, during your travels please spend some time at the lodges as your dues contribute only a small portion of keeping the lodges open.

Dick - I am somewhat computer literate and use the Elks Lodge RV website as well!! [emoticon] I would hope that the website is more up to date as well, but have found a few outdated entries. However, at times it is nice to have the old written page handy for reference while on the fly and don't have the laptop and wifi out running while driving or traveling!

This Elks park here just north of Florence is truly impressive. Nice wide and deep spaces, privacy hedges, very nice picnic tables, tons of gravel on the roadways and in the parking spots which are very level and they have wifi as well. The restrooms we haven't been in nor the clubhouse they have, but both look very nice and neat. They have about 40 W/E hookup spots and another very large dry camping area. They really have a large facility and piece of property here. The only problem is that our Verizon signal is nonexistent and we are only about 1/3 of a mile east of 101. That's not the Elks fault, I'm assuming its the trees and lay of the land from the cell towers, as once we get on 101 heading into Florence we have connection!

Just had a 20-30 minute squall down pour come through and now the blue skies are opening up. Ah, fall weather on the coast!

Ron, one reason the web pages do not stay current is the lack of Elk member volunteers to keep the pages current. We have also found in our travels there are several lodges that have RV facilities that are not listed either in the books or the internet. We often call ahead to check if parking space is available.

As a 45-year Elks member, Director / Trustee of our local lodge, and a continuous volunteer, I have a rather intimate understanding of the lodge financial health. Unless more members start becoming more involved the low cost RV facilities will start becoming less available.

Dick - forgot to mention one memorable "happy hour" at the Pocatello Elks club we had several years ago. Carolyn and I went downstairs to the lounge for a drink. The bartender said "oh, this is happy hour. Buy 2 drinks, get the third one free." [emoticon] Sounded like a deal to us, so I ordered margaritas and Carolyn ordered Bloody Marys and that's when the problems began!! First - she used 16+ ounce glasses. Second - she was not stingy with the booze!! [emoticon] Halfway through the second drink, we both new that we would NEVER be able to drink the "freebie"! We had her use our tokens for the Exalted Ruler when he came in the next time. We could barely stagger back up the stairs, get the rig door open and drag our drunken bodies into the rig!! [emoticon] Take about light weights now! Never had such potent drinks that I can ever remember!

We have remember that at every lodge we go in for a drink, but haven't run into that potent of drinks since then!

Over the years we have stayed at some great Elks Clubs that have treated us to drinks and even to dinner. At the Globe, Az. Elks the door greeter looked at our Elks clubs and said that they were due to morrow. We told him we knew and we would renew as soon as we got home. He told us not to come back tomorrow, that our lack of planning was not his problem and to remove our RVs from the lot. Never in our lives have we met anyone like him and I have been an Elk for over 30 years...

Bob, that should have been reported to the club ER and the DD. Any Elk member who is traveling when April 1st comes around but is current in the past year should be signed in by an officer of the lodge without question!

As we have a very active RV park, our hosts and officers work very hard to ensure our quests feel very welcome to our lodge.

Great win for the Cougars!

The Huskies shot themselves in the foot too many times against a quality team like Stanford. Unfortunate, as they should have beat them.

Then, had to watch the Seahawks in a pub here in Bandon and that was frustrating. Oh well, don't expect them to go undefeated. Still in great shape yet.

Gorgeous day down here on the coast today. Heading for Brookings and Harris Beach SP tomorrow.
