There have been a few on this thread that have done that and seem to be happy with it and the way it helps pay for their RV. Here is one example
They list on RV Share and seem to do very well. They also list on Outdoorsy as do many other owners of Former Rentals,Here is a listing for some of them You can search in your area just put in the search Majestic.
On a personal note I have run across a few campers that had rented them thru RV Share and Outdoorsy. One told me that the person that he rented from had 2 Majestics that he rented out.
One trip recently,a Chinese couple parked one space away from me and I happened to ask how they liked their Former Rental.
I was surprised when they told me that they had rented from a man in their Chinese Community that had 5 of them and rented mostly within that community. They told me that they had reserved months in advance just to get an open spot. I seemed that he was doing very well.

Looking forward to that report. Did you get to Colo Springs and get that seat cut out in the dinette to give you more room? Also any other mods that you have done.
Too bad you have to go back and get that awning, hopefully that will work out well.
Again welcome back and hopefully we will hear from you soon with a full report!

Please add me to the club! I'm late in speaking up, but in 2017 I bought a 1993 Majestic 29Q and we have been so happy with her! Remarkably she had less than 44,000 miles at the time. I suspect that she was taken out of the rental fleet early since she has corrugated siding and that it right about when all the new ones were smooth. BTW her name is Thelma.
She's been great mechanically and in the structure. My husband and I are in our sixties. One daughter borrows Thelma to take her family camping, and my other daughter and her husband join us from time-to-time. Thelma just turned over to 50,000 miles.

Baelling,Welcome to the Former Rental Owners Club!
I will add you to the Club membership, you will be #130 ![biggrin [emoticon]](http://www.coastresorts.com/sharedcontent/cfb/images/biggrin.gif)
Another happy owner it seems, you probably have the oldest unit here and most likely the one with the lowest mileage, also the only one to have corrugated siding what a great combination.
It is great to hear that Thelma has served you well and will continue to do so for a long time.
I hope your camping season with the family will go well and for a long time, stop by when you can and update us all on the experience of owning a Former Rental.

It's been approximately a month since I picked up my ex-CA Majestic 23A. As a "thank you" to all who have contributed to this thread, I owe a review of my experience. In short, it was great! I've been enjoying the heck out of my RV and would enthusiastically recommend buying a used RV from CA.
I picked the unit up in Federal Heights, Co on Sept. 28th. Joe, the sales manager from CA had the unit all ready for me, with the propane tank nearly filled, about 1/2 tank of gas, 6 new tires and a new house AGM battery. The outside of the coach looked newly painted, and the inside was pretty clean. It took maybe 20 minutes to do the paperwork, but Joe and I kept on telling stories so it took longer-that was all on me. I had ordered an manual awning for $900, but it wasn't in yet, (and 30+ days later, I haven't heard from Joe, so I assume it still isn't in), so sometime next spring, I guess I'll have to go back to Colorado to get the awning, and then continue on to Utah. I did check locally here in Missouri about having a manual awning installed, and the price quoted me was around $1500, so getting it from CA was a good deal, provided it gets installed! I could be upset about this, but I'm not.
The RV had 128,000 miles on it, but it handled well; better than I expected, but it does wander a little, depending on how much fuel and water you have on board. To correct this, I am going to install Heavy duty Bilstein shocks and a steering stabilizer on it shortly. I need to point out that I had AmazinRV inspect the unit before I picked it up and they gave me a very detailed report, and I had them do a fluid analysis on the engine and transmission which showed that these items were in good condition. Being new to the RV experience, their inspection on my unit gave me a sense of security, and I would also recommend them.
After the unit was mine, I spent a little over a week touring, fly fishing, and camping in Colorado, (the state is getting pretty crowded). I then came back home to Missouri and have been camping in the Ozarks twice in the unit. It now has 132,000 miles on it. The only problem I've had is a check engine light that came on due to the gas cap not being seated properly. When I picked the unit up, I was given the same booklet CA gives their renters. In that booklet it said that this situation could happen, so it really pays to read the booklet. I was also given written instructions on how to winterize the unit, which I have done, although I still plan on using the unit over the winter.
I've gone over and under the unit pretty closely and haven't found anything wrong with it. I have added a bit of calking in a few places, and I have added a wireless backup system, and I've waxed the unit. I was able to get the drivers seat moved back far enough for me to drive it comfortably ( I'm 6'5"), but I'm still thinking about changing the dining area to something different. I just don't find it a comfortable place to sit. Perhaps making the area into a "U"or "L" shaped couch with some kind of flip up table?
Again, I have been very happy with my formal CA rental, and look forward to many years of use with it. My thanks to all who have contributed to this thread.

I am in Montana, getting ready to put down a deposit on a CA 28a, likely 2016 or 2017 build model year. We will be towing a boat a lot. The boat is a 21 foot on a tandem axle trailer. It weighs a bit over 4200lbs with trailer so lets say 5000 if fully loaded with gear. From what I have read the V10 will have no problem with this but have seen conflicting viewpoints on the hitch. Can someone with more knowledge on the hitch that comes with these units from CA help point me in the right direction so I can make sure I can safely tow with this unit?
Second part of the question is for anyone with a CA 28a that launches their boat with it. How has your experience been doing it and have you found any ramps that are too steep or have to steep of a transition point that the clearance under the RV in the back would start to drag?
thank you, this thread has been brutal to read through but contains so much information. Thanks to the moderator. Suggestion: is there anyway to clean it up or organize it to perhaps place all the CA 28a posts together and likewise for the El Monte rigs, etc. ? trying to think of what might make it easier for newbs like me in the future work there way through the currently 130 pages. Cheers and you have been a blessing to me in this journey.
Edit November 7, 2020 -
November 2020, Today I received this information from Kavon, the sales rep at the MillCreek (SLC) Utah Cruise America Location.
The total carry capacity for the 28A is around 23,000 lbs. The vehicle is 14,500 empty. The stock hitch is Class III, which gives you 5,000lb tow capacity.
So, if your boat is less than 5,000 pounds then you will be able to tow it with the vehicle as-is. If you’re boat is between 5,000-7,500 pounds, you can tow it provided you have a Class IV hitch made for the vehicle, I have had two customers that went this route in the last year. In regards to wiring, your vehicle will have a 4-pin connector, and potentially a 7-pin as well. The truck also has Ford’s Tow/Haul feature built in.
In regards to back-up sensors, your vehicle may or may not have these. We don’t service these on site, so some vehicles have them and some don’t. Although, probably nearly all of the people buying a vehicle these days take it straight to a shop for a rear camera installation. This is something I would certainly recommend for any RV.

I can't help you with your boat/hitch weight problems, but with regards to the back up sensors, after crawling under mine, (23A), I can see where the backup sensors were cut,so I don't have any. But in my opinion, they are rather useless, and were probably cut so they didn't alarm when towing something.
I would recommend getting a back up camera asap. In my unit I went the wireless route and wired the cameras (front and rear), into the running lights so they are always on as long as I have my running lights on. It's amazing how may people drive so close behind me (drafting?) to the point where I can't see them in my mirrows. My system also a 15 minute recording function which could be useful in case of an accident.
Enjoy your RV!

As a follow up to my review posted above of my experience in purchasing a CA former rental.....
I had mentioned where my unit did a little "wandering" and said I was going to install Beilstien shocks and a steering stabilizr. I installed the stabilizer today and it was a pretty straight forward and simple process. The factory stabilizer was shot; after I took it off, I could easily move the piston in and out, not so with the new Beilstien. I took it out for a little interstate test drive with a 20 mph cross wind. My wandering was greatly reduced even with the crosswind. While under the truck I got my grease gun out and greased the front end. It looked like it had been a long while since anything had been greased. I'm looking forward to getting the new shocks installed now more than ever.

Booner,Thanks for the great report on your Former Rental and the followup.I am sure that this report will help others here. I have bookmarked it along with other owners remarks to help anyone that may have some questions.
I really think that the Bilsteins will be of a great help,I know the addition of them to my RV greatly improved the ride and stability, keep us updated.
