Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Posted By: Tizi on 01/21/17 07:13pm

Here are the new legs installed. The front two(4160) were pretty straight forward. 3 locknuts and 3 washers each. The back two (4560) were a little more challenging since the camper has a bumper attached to the same structure. Each one has the same 3 locknuts and washers and an additional bolt that took a little coaxing to get back in.

The job took about 2 hours total. I took my time. Each motor had to be removed and reinstalled on a new leg. They also had to be adjusted because the internal attachment point between the motor and leg did not line up. The motor would not seat down inside the leg. I adjusted each motor by quickly cycling it (while tilted on top of the leg) until they lined up. Once they lined up, the motor slide into place..

The lower bolt that was a little tricky:

You picked a nice day to work on these jacks. I took the motorcycle for ride today with temperatures breaking 50 degrees with sun.

My new locks came today. Replaced all the CH751 locks with tubular keyed locks like this.

Pretty easy to swap out and they sure operate more smoothly. I did forget to order the locks for the bumper storage compartment. DOH!

Looks Great!

Those are the tops mods I want to do but unfortunately no other toilet will fit my Lance 1172.

How hard was it to do the flooring? Cost?

The flooring was about $100. The new oak base (I used screen stop) was another 20 bucks or so. The interlocking plank flooring is easy to install, just take your time and make sure that all ends/sides are fully snapped/locked in place. I used a pice of scrap to tap the planks in to each other. It also helps to layout the flooring before install to make sure that you don't end up with a tiny rip of flooring at the side that you finish. Sometimes it's better to start with less than full width so you end with a decent size piece for aesthetics. Also try not to have all your first row pieces be of a different length so no joints match. Also helpful to layout all your new pics out of the boxes and vary the colors more randomly than they are packaged.

I was concerned that the toilet might not fit because the rough in hole is closer to the back wall than the spec range I read online but it just made it with 1/4" or so clearance from the back of the toilet to the wall. Also had to go the rv store and buy a 90 degree flair fitting as the water line that used to run up to top of the Thetford toilet now entered the bottom of the Dometic.

I added a set of scissor stairs inside the camper to make it easier to get up into the bunk. Rex the dog says that they work pretty well. I'll be adding some carpeted covers to make them a bit easier on the feet in the middle of the night.

Add something protective on the bottom of the leg so it doesn't scratch the nice flooring.
