Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Posted By: pappawheely on 09/29/13 10:38pm

Started the install on a solar powered ceiling fan. I need to find a swivel base for the panel. Probably use a seat base.

Monicarick01,

***Leaks***

Check the bottom of the door frames and make sure they have weep holes drilled in them. If they have weep holes on top of the door frame caulk them and drill new ones in the bottom. Im talking about the door's frame itself (swing outs), not the frame screwed to the camper. I had an AF with the same problem and found that water was filling up inside the door frame and draining into the storage compartments. Don't know if this is your issue but hope it helps.

Thanks Sticky for the info I will check. I know one off my problems is the LP holding area fills up with water and drains into the lower Compartments.

I also installed a Maxair II, water proofed the wood in my leaking areas, added 2 inch foam board to the bottom of my camper to lift it up to clear my over head lights on the truck. I also cleaned out the hot water tank with a wash out wand and a magnet. Now I know why I never have bought a used rv before. The price is good but getting it into good shape is a killer.

Monicarick01,
I know exactly what your talking about. My wife was happy with the used price we paid but I am the one paying for it now. I've spent day after day working on our camper. I had no idea there was so much to caulk on a camper. Not to mention the hours upon hours stripping the silicone caulk the previous owner used.

Next is getting the weight distribution hitch setup on our truck and horse trailer. We added the Magnum hitch and Torklift frame mount camper tie downs to our new truck. What a hitch!

Painted the 2 inch foam board I mounted under the camper for truck light clearance, and started to install the slide topper awning. Need more hands for the awning, I guess beer for the neighbors is in order.

Emptied more stuff out of it to lighten her up in prep for her retirement as my residence and her return to the traveling RV [emoticon]. With shipping the new fenders are going to run me $615. $495 for the fenders and $120 for the shipping.

I installed a 4 inch floodlight/work light under the flatbed on the left and right side pointing down so I can see better at night when we pull into a spot. it is controlled by a rocker switch on the dash of the truck. that will be nice, especially since we are in the season of it getting dark early.

finished put on my slide out awning topper started putting food in it and added rs9000xl shocks to the rear of my truck, waiting for the fronts to arrive in the mail. surprisingly easy to install.
