Topic: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Posted By: Rbertalotto on 08/05/13 11:09am

I'm a HUGE fan of West Virginia! Some of the best motorcycle roads in America and great hunting!

If I wasn't working full time I could be enticed to "visit".......... :-)

Well I have finally completed the project that I posted the drawings on a couple of months ago.

First I replaced the tow hooks with two new modified receivers.

Second, I built the rack to hold a generator and its box.

Finally I built the aluminum box, mount of the generator with a fan for pressurizing the box and keep it cool.

The box is completely lined with "B Quiet Insulation".

The unit runs very quiet and I'm getting ready for my first five day run into the wilderness.

At this time I have a waterproof plug (yellow) to hook up to the camper when I am parked.

When I return I will run the powerline back through the truck and up to the camper.

It could have been worse. CEL was on and the truck had some surging issues so I took the Lance off and dropped the truck off at the shop. They found four problems, two bad sensors, bad EGR valve, and that critters had chewed up some wiring harness sections. Parts and labor are going to run $1300 but I will pass smog and have the TC back on the tru k in time to use it this weekend.

Finished stocking the camper after a quick trip to the grocery store. Also refilled with fresh water so we're ready for morning departure on trip back home from our summer in Alaska.

Unloaded it for the first time and reloaded it for the second time. Went amazingly well. Took about 20 minutes, mainly getting a feel for the small changes in direction to get it straight and even in the pickup bed.

Amaze how much "get up and go" there is without the camper. Felt like a sports car after 6 months driving with the camper on it.

Welded the angle iron for the back tie-downs on to the truck frame. Will work on the front this weekend, I think. Anniversary on Thursday, so I'll probably leave it alone for a day or so.

See y'all on the roads, or in the parks.

Just say when.

Back to the topic....all we have been able to do is air it out a bit. Free weekends are just too hard to come by. I did find come good cleaner/polisher and have done most of one side. I really have to tackle the recaulking soon.
