Blondie Girl wrote: Hey...What's the deal?? I've heard that several GGS gate guards are either in the process or have already moved to other gate guard companies!! Is it because of more money? Maybe someone needs to inform management at GGS that more money is why they are losing some of their best veteran year-round gate guards! This time of the year is not a good time to be losing gate guards. We will soon be getting into the hot summer months when they can not find enough people to cover gates. I approached them with that fact and was told, "it won't happen, as long as I have anything to say about it". Yes, money is why they are losing many veterans. We did the math and every 5 days, you get at least an extra days pay, with most other companies. I think Bert made a mistake, when he distanced himself from the day to day operations of the company. I also found out yesterday that most of the oil companies are paying extra for each additional active pad inside the gate, but apparently GGS is not passing that on to their gate guards, like they did last year. Sorry, but we are in this to make money, not make middle management look good, so we are now weighing our options.

One thing to consider...on another forum, a gate guard from Loma lost their gate last week and will not have another gate until the 16th. That is several $$$$ in lost income and also the money to pay for a place to stay for the lost time. It would take a while to make up that money. Since we started with GGS Oct 2011, we have been working every day except the time we asked to be off.
Last fall when we thought we were going to lose our rig, we talked to several other gate guard companies and none could say that they could keep us working constantly with no down time.
Also, GGS will not hire you back afer you leave. I heard they have signed up 40 new gate guards just recently. We will be staying with GGS.
Just something to consider.....

I know of one gate guard that left and went with K & C they let him go after about 3 weeks. Gate Guard Services did take him back, but he got put in a place he did not like. So off he went again with someone else. Guess we will stay put for this year. As we are going home around May 5th. We want be back until Sept. Maybe Oct, just depends on how broke we get. I had an emergency on Monday and they had a service man out here in about 30 mins and found someone to stay the night while i was in the hospital. That means a lot to me.
Does anyone know when Gate Guard case with the labor dept is coming off this year ? Don't get me wrong i would like to have more money too. I truly understand others doing what they are doing. Sometimes you just have to take a chance, who knows i might be next. Just because GGS,is the biggest guard company, does not mean they will always be. No business is safe unless they stay up with competition.

Well, it's official, we are now setting at a Cadillac gate. The contractor left today and CGP-31 is now operational. We will be here for another couple months while the erosion control is completed, new road and culvert completed and the main fence with electronic gate installed. Gate is now open M-F, 7 to 5 and we will be lucky if we see 10-15 vehicles a day. Love it, considering we have logged in over 15,000 vehicles since we opened the gate on 10/6.

It is my understanding that rehire at GGS is up to Sid. I have also heard from reliable company sources that they do rehire. Have you ever thought about the fact that they may be getting rid of the "dead wood" when they consider folks for rehire?? I'm also sure the "good ole boy" network is in place at GGS.

DW & I are considering Gate Guarding next winter. I was just wondering if there is anything that we could do now (we live in MO) to smooth/expedite the process when we get to TX? I was thinking if we could do something now-getting fingerprints, etc. maybe things would go faster when we get there.
Thanks!

If you want information or have something possitive to add then by all means feel free to PM me. But to get a PM like the one LivinGood sent to me just don't make sence.
I posted about not getting service because I feel that being way out in nowhere they should take care of us, I know Jamie would if we were working out of his yard. We were to work out of his yard but Roger needed help so we agreed to help him.
I did post about getting the******scared out of me by a large Rattler.
The stupid comments PM'd me by LivinGood is way out of reason.
LivinGood's PM to me.
Well....hmmmmm Girlyman....I sure hope the SNAKES don't get you.

Sorry people I joined along time ago and did not remember the Forum rules. There were two post because I did not think the first one posted as there was no history in "My post" or a warning that I was not abiding by the rules. My apologies to everyone in the Forum as this is a good way to exchange information and would not want to see it shut down, I just chose the wrong topic, this was not done maliciously.
Thank you Texan for the reminder.
