There is a long discussion by 69avion and Ticki2 about the building of a SS holding tank and other issues relating to water handling on around P 80 - 82. There is a specific discussion of the toilet on P 82 69avion wrote:

They don't have any parts for these old toilets. The other issue is that this toilet is a couple inches shorter than the low profile, new toilets. I decided to redo the bathroom to take a modern toilet. Avion had 3-1/2" of wood under that closet flange and fiberglass cover to make up for this very short toilet. I made the holding tank higher by 1" and took out all but one 3/4" board to make the modern low profile toilet the proper height. I went with the cheaper, and lighter plastic unit, with the intention of replacing it every 10 or 15 years. ![]() |

I have no black water tank, only a self contained toilet. I was able to use my original shower basin but had considered molding one out of fiberglass/gelcoat. This is all contingent on what level of originality you are trying to maintain. 1968 Avion C-11 1993 Dodge D250 LE Cummins |

Howdy! 68c11, pretty rig. Why not strip the interior paint and leave it shiny too? I would sure hold on to your original pan. I recovered them in epoxy and carbonfiber. Glad I did. Check out the middle of this thread. Epoxy is easily dyed. Make it yours, but careful finding things that hug those beautiful complex curves! |

I don't know if others are up for a big change, but I put the Thetford electramagic in my C10. There were no original parts left, so I wnt with a toilet that didn't need a black tank. Later I had my son in his high school welding class weld up a 3"x23"x48" 14 gallon grey water tank which is under the floor. I do not yet have a shower pan, so no need for shower yet, nor do I have a hot water heater yet, but it is easy enough to beat water to on the stove. Hope this helps! Fellow Avionistas, the conversation having turned to tanks, let me share with you the source for custom made flexible water tanks I have found. I have created two oddly shaped spaces on either side of Argo, the all-aluminum camper, for water storage. 27 gallons each. A company in Idaho called Aire, whom I know from whitewater and fly fishing rafts, also has an industrial division that makes all manner of flexible tanks. They are making these two tanks for me, with inlets and outlets, for $300 per tank. Not cheap, but perfectly fitted to the space, and very durable. They regularly make custom tanks for RVs and boats, according to Ryan, with whom I have been dealing. Very proactive and professional. He can be reached at [email protected]. Incidentally, they can build potable, gray or backwater tanks, depending on your use. Onward! |

1968 C11: I'm not a real Avionista, rather kind of a guest here, and I have neither been following your situation close or even the details of this thread or these Avion rebuilds, but from a little reading this past little bit I'd add this... Europe seems to be more of a small black water dump kind of place than the states, e.g. blue portable tanks and/or a cassette toilet or porta pottie dumping. If Avion toilets and parts are hard to find (for an original restoration type of job), I'd sure look into a modern and functional sort of "toilet and tank" for your situation. That's what I'm doing on my TC. Make it old school cool, while improving amenities to fit my needs. By all means figure it out now and save on shipping costs for whatever you plan (inside the camper). Good luck! |

Making some progress on the C10. My girlfriend finished painting the inside and also painted all the cabinet doors and hinges. Shes working on painting all the latches today because the last person didnt do a very good job. ![]() ![]() I then decided to tackle the door. The plywood that was on the door was rotted and falling off in pieces. My fear was the whole door structure would be rotted but it was actually in great condition once I got the skin off. ![]() inner structure in good shape ![]() finished ![]() I also plugged the camper in to 110v yesterday and all is well! every outlet works. I checked the fridge but it appears my fridge is gas only?! I've never seen a fridge that is gas only with no electric option. I may swap it out to an electric fridge. Also there is no battery charger or inverter. It has 2 large marine batteries but they are dead. I'm going to try to charge them and see if they hold a charge. They look to be in good condition but i do not know how old they are. 1965 Avion C-10 1977 Ford F-250 ![]() |

But for the vagaries of chance I have no doubt that you'd be rebuilding a classic C11. Besides, anyone with a double first name is OK by me. |

Howdy! Garry did you ever finish the camper trailer? I have a new need. Where do I carry the boat? Yes, need is indeed the mother of invention! The problem with a trailer and a john boat is the hitch would need to be long to come from under the campers porch. I could strap something smaller across the top. That seems pretty high. Inflatable is interesting. Maybe a kayak stored inside the camper. That really gets in the way traveling. Ideas? |
