Have any of you been successful insuring your Avion and if so how did you establish value ?

Howdy! Tiki I was interested too. My insurance guy was flabergasted at the request as he had never in all his years insured a Antique Truck Camper! He was willing, with pics, after inquiring around. Amount? I suppose based on what a comperable one currently sells for, but for these rare birds what is comparable? I would not sell mine for it but around 10 grand seems reasonable and insurable. Question to all y'all, I can not get my electric water heater, heat exchanger, cab raditor to heat. The water heater works well. I added a pump to the circuit, which works. Still no heat. Any ideas? |

We had to get estimates of the value of the camper from people that the insurance company vetted. Our value went to $15,000 based on the estimates by professionals, the real costs that I have receipts for, and an enterprising insurance guy who insures my other properties. It may be the last part that was most important, though he didn't say so.

Can someone remind me of the best sealant/caulking that is silver to use on the transition from the cabover to the front bulkhead and wrap around corners? I had some, that I had ordered, but when I used it last time, it was rather thick, and didn't flow well... And now it has fallen off in a few spots, and I don't want a leak... I think my other tube had frozen, which caused it to not hold up after application... Thanks guys!!! Garry |

Garry, I have been using Trempro 635, from Vintage Trailer Supply, and am very impressed with it. As for curved corner the joint between the bulkhead and the cabover, it is certainly the most challenging joint in the entire camper. I really disassembled the whole thing in my rebuild and haven't figured out how to neatly rebuild it yet. Gary, my master welder and creative problem solver, formed a strip of aluminum that is about 3" wide and conform pretty well to the compound curves involved but it's not quite the right solution... Ultimately I think it will involve a strip as above, curved, sealed heavily with Trempro, and riveted. Just reinstalled my windows with clear tempered glass and am very pleased with the outcome. No problem conforming to the curve of the shell. They came out at about the same 1/4" curve in 13" length as the plex. It lightens up the camper interior remarkably to have clear windows! Onward! Garry is that exterior? I used Parbond from VTS. Its silver and flows neatly. I think that D1 may have missed your question about "silver". Am I right? Cajunavion that looks beautiful, but the mod may take it down because it exceeds the size for images which is a max of 800PX wide. In the meantime where are you traveling? Along the Gulf Coast? I must say that is a real pack of bikes. I guess you can see OK? |

Yes, this is to be used on the exterior seam that is between the main body and the cabover, on the compound wrap around corner seam.

OK its Parbond. You can keep a little tube of it onboard and touch up whenever you like.
