Thanks Dave; thats what its all about!
Avion campers are one of a kind. I am
installing a marine electric hot water heater with heat exchanger.
That way I can run off truck engine heat when rolling and I am installing a hydronic
heater to also run off the water heater. I have
a wave 3 but I am just too paranoid about gas fumes
to use it in a confined space. If anyone is interested,
I certainly can pass my experiences along. It certainly
isn't stock, but is neato!

Please take pics, and do a write up! I am very interested! BTW how big is this marine HWH?
Thanks!
Garry

The Jan. 15 issue of Petersen's 4 Wheel And Off Road has a feature on the Overland Expo 2014 including a picture and short description of our own 67Avion's camper.

Howdy!
Here's the heater. Pretty standard fare.
Its 13x13x16. Its fits nicely beneath the sink
and counter. I pulled the plastic fittings out, plastic
and heat have issues. Put in a magnesium anode.
Everything seems to come down to plumbing.
I just got a aquahot cab heater that must be connected
to the heat exchanger, but I also need to add an
auxillary connection to be able to connect and
disconnect to the trucks radiator. That part is going
to require some head scratchin.

Hello, fellow Avionistas! I've turned the corner and have moved - very happily - into reassembly mode here in sunny California! I look forward to posting a bunch of pics of the reassembly of my C11 quite soon.

The shell has been riveted to the aluminum frame, the new jack plates and tie downs have been bolted on with plastic bushings to prevent electrolysis, the door frame has been rewelded and the new outer skin of the door will soon be sandwiched to the inner aluminum frame and new inner skin. I actually loaded the camper onto the Ford and drove it to the welder's shop last week. The truck didn't even notice it was aboard! I will weigh the whole rig when I get done at the welder's. The truck is 7200# all by itself.

I did install Torklift frame-mounted tie downs and Fastguns. Nice, solid feeling there!

A question about the Rieco Titan jacks: I have the original three that came with the rig and one that I bought a few months ago so I would mount two jacks on each side. They are the 2000# models. The new one's tripod comes off the shaft by design. The old ones do not seem to in spite of my having hammered on them pretty vigorously! Anyone know if they do come off or have been pressed on or ...

AND, a question about the roofing compound: what has been the best way of removing the old roofing material? A scraper, a particular solvent, heat - all the above?

My next goal is to get the outside waterproof so I can embark on the design and installation of the interior.

Pics soon, I promise.

Dick

Folks I have been a bit busy this past couple of weeks and missed some of the posts. Here's catching up:

I probably have a spare vent. I'd have to check to be sure, but if I do it's yours if you want it.

Thanks. Yes I would like to get one if its possible. Please PM me.

67 avion , it has been mentioned , ( avion c-11 ? ) , that the roof rivets were pop rivets and not buck rivets . When I did my repair I found that they were all buck rivets . Will yo tell us what you find ?
Good luck with your repair , any questions give a shout .

Thanks for the offer Ticki. Yes, we found pop rivets. And like you we are replacing with Olympic. We got several panels on and had to stop before the final - big one. I'll probably wait until I have a vent.

67 may I ask a stupid question? Why do you
not just rivet a patch over those holes and call it
a day? (again I think it just adds more character to
a beautiful camper, and besides those little pppdings are symetrical)

Actually, Cajun, our metal suffered a catawampus damage and I lack both time and talent to straighten out the sheets. I agree that the repaired damage often adds character...but this 67 is dripping with character. If I add any more I'll have to put it in a convalescent home.

Good luck to both of you. (TCM Calendar entry)

Gordon and Angela asked that I send in a photo of the Avion on the road, and we sort of liked this one. We'll see.

This photo was after we broke our rear tie downs and before we smashed the rear. But it was DURING a fantastic road trip!

Dennis, where can I see the article. I looked for it as described, but didn't have any luck. Thanks for the headsup.

D1trout appears to be moving carefully in crafting the worlds-most-remarkable-Avion-restoration. And well he should since we have an agreement to mount an Avion caravan at Muley Point, Utah. The first Avionista rally!

Depending on the material we have been using heat and plastic scrapers.

D1trout, I used a plastic scraper from Home Depot. Actually, my FIL wore out two of them scraping the roof compound, while I was building a trailer for the Avion.

Thanks for the advice about removing roofing material. It's kind of what I figured. Incidentally, Chuck Cayo recommended using the standard mobile home roofing material available at big box stores.

Regarding my question about Rieco Titan tripod jacks, I sent RT an email over the weekend and a nice gal called from the company this AM to say that the tripod bases have always been removable. Mine are just stuck from long use and little service.
Heat, PB Blaster and a big hammer should solve the problem. More as it develops.

BTW, a very fine pic, 67. I cast my vote!

i had one that needed extra persuasion . A 50/50 mix of acetone and transmission fluid makes a good soak .
